OK, this is a tough one. Which bike do you think looks better? Wes Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Definately the one on the left. (Sorry for my ignorance but I have no clue as to what it's model number is)
OK, looks like I need to come to the rescue of the top one (900ss). Here's a side shot that explains the style a bit better perhaps. Let's see if this helps it out..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good Lord, whats the question? The SS has been Terblanche'd (i.e. same as Bangled in the scoot world) and the 748 is a Tamburini masterpiece.
Yes it is, if you are smoking crack. To answer your question, mine looks better. Real men don't need rear seats. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL, they do if they need the wifes okay to buy it. Not having the opportunity to ride is different than not having the option.
The 748 looks great but the seating position is more radical than the other isn't it? My 916 was tough at slow speeds. On the highway it was great.
the super sport looks better for riding to work and the superbike looks better for playing on the track or in the mountains. which one would I buy? the superbike. why go half ass.
SINGLE SIDEDED SWINGARM 748 all the way!!! but I still like the SS just no where near the 748. Plus the 748 has more power than the 900ss! No to mention better suspension.
Interesting comments guys, thanks! I'm surprised at the 748 following, that it's so strong. I think some of your votes were influenced by how the bike feels, rides or is built, but that wasn't the question, it was merely based on looks, but the pattern is clear regardless. I like the 748 as well, but think the SS has a lot more going for it in the side panel area...a lot more. The 748's side panels are completely vacant of ideas, whereas the SS introduces side sculpting that surpasses anything else I have seen. I can't ignore that area. They both have great tanks, but there again I'd give the edge to the SS for the black introduced on the tank. I think that is a great touch. Headlights, that could go either way, but I suppose the 748's better there and as well on the rear seat area. Interesting to hear the 748 has more power. Anyone have the actual numbers handy? Top speeds? I think the shape of the SS requires red more than the 748, so again, to shore up support for my poor SS I'm posting a red one below. Further comments? Image Unavailable, Please Login
the 748 is one of the best looking bikes ever. The single-sided swingarm, dual undertail exhaust, single-seat (no handles) do amazing things for that sculpted shape.
I think most would agree that if you had asked about the previous generation 900 ss sp that would be a closer race. It has been my experience that the red ones are faster. (psst, mines red)
I much prefer the 748. I even prefer the previous 900ss over the current one. Chalk it up to different strokes for different folks; the details you praise are the reasons I don't like it. The black on the tank, the shape of the side panels... The side panels look too busy to me, the black on the tank... I just don't like it. I don't like the biposto 748 nearly as much as the monoposto either. The seat just looks wrong back there. (As does a passenger on a bike like that) While the 748 has more max power, you have to work harder to utilize it. Not sure about the current 900's, but the earlier 900's were a blast to ride around town, lot's of low end grunt. My '95 would do unintentional wheelies regularly, in some ways it was more fun to ride than my 996. A 996/748 sucks in traffic, the 900ss is (or at least was) a much better city bike... Basically I think the current SS range of bikes are a step back in the styling department. I've never had any desire to own one. In fact I didn't realize they don't even make a 900ss anymore until just now when I went to the Ducati site to check the power rating... now it's a 1000 or an 800. No matter, I'd take a mid-90s 900ss over either one of those anyway. (No need to get a 748, I've already got a 996 )
Finally, an articulate reply. Thank you! While I come down on the other side of the argument, I appreciate that you addressed the areas specifically. I get the impression that if anything was pitted against the 748/916 body style it would lose the vote around here. Anyone know of a nickname for the 748/916 body style? (Rather than me keep calling it the 748/916 body style)
