This is an amazing factory, not sure how old it is, but it's right in the middle of Dresden, and built to allow a view of just about every step of the car assembly I guess.

The only factory tour I've seen is at BMW in SC, and it is not quite as advanced as this with the robots delivering parts all over the place.

Cool. Must be old, didn't they quit making the Phaeton about 5 years ago?

Nope. Thankfully they still make that car...really nice piece of engineering. They stopped selling them here around the time you state. Sales weren't quite what they expected...people had issues spending that kind of change on a "VW"...they needed the four rings on the front grill and trunk I suppose to spend that much even if the car was the same if not better.

The worst idea Piech ever had was selling the Phaeton as a VW while he had the unused Borgward brand (tradition-loaded here, maybe neutral somewhere else) up his sleeves.
