I heard yet another rumor that a missing front plate has moved from a "fix-it" ticket of ~$45 to be a moving violation and $101. This rumor came from the NW Autocross email list.

I still don't believe it, but decided to find out again if it was true.

    Does anyone know about it?

I've been pulled over 7 times for no front plate since I took it off a year ago. All on the eastside in smaller towns, I live in downtown seattle and see probably 15 police cars a day and they can't be bothered with it.

A couple of them said if they saw me again they would give me a ticket. The others weren't as strict and just said to go the dol and get a new plate. Last cop warned me it would be a $101 fine if I drove though Carnation on his watch again.

I'm not going to put it on though. If it cost $101 to have a good looking car, so be it.

What do you drive? I have not had a plate on my Vette, Viper or Ferrari for 9 years and have been pulled over once. I live on the eastside and drive through Carnation on almost every drive.

^ Nissan Primera; which is probably why I get pulled over when nicer cars don't.

Perhaps try "trimming" the front plate down.
A good friend of mine had me do that to his '82 Mondy. I ended up with a legal plate 11.5" x 4" that looks more Euro. Use white headed screws to mount it as they blend in, and you are technically legal, but arent pushing a "Billboard"

i think a couple guys on the vortex have done that "mod" to their license plates. seems to have been fine for them. someone even went through the trouble of getting a fake euro plate made with their actual license plate number on it....
