Just finished setting the cam timing on our '69 Euro spec Daytona and went to the English translation version of the factory shop manual to get the tightening torque specs for the split cam bearing caps. The procedure instructions say 3.3 Kg-M, or 24 Ft-Lbs. For an M6 stud that is barely holding on to the aluminum head with only 2 diameters of engagement, that is a recipe for disaster. I would expect more like 7 - 8 Ft-Lbs max for an M6 stud that goes into aluminum and is taken apart periodically.

Thinking it must be a mistake on that page, I looked at the torque table at the beginning of the manual - same 3.3 Kg-M number. And I notice that the spec for the larger M8 bolts that are holding the flywheel onto the end of the steel crank is even less than the cam caps, 3.1 Kg-M. Flywheel bolts tend to be high quality, highly stressed bolts in my experience, so that figure seems very low.

Anyone have more rational torque specs that they have been using?

    Thanks,
    Rory

For M6 on cam caps I use 80 INCH pounds.

Ferrari torque specs ALWAYS need to be subjected to a reality test. Even the factory books have incorrect data and thats not even a factory book.

In the case of the flywheel bolts thats correct. I do not recall them being high strength bolts but when staying within normal RPM limits did not have problems losing flywheels.
I always felt better when they went to 10mm bolts.
