Looks like I will be going to Waco for a couple weeks possibly around the end of the month or so. Are there any F-Chatters in the area??????

    Cheers!

    Waco? Jeeeeeezzzzz.......Who'd you piss-off? :D
It's not that bad - midway between DFW and Austin, about an hour each way (don't hold me to legality on that one, though)
Oh, and about an hour or so from College Station, in case there are any NASA or SCCA races being held at TWS over a weekend you're here.

From where (other than "on the ranch")?

    Ha HA HA :D

Didn't piss off anyone, looks like the dates are the 26th to the 6th.

    I'm from Ridgefield Washington.

We have a manufacturing facility there, they are going to rotate a few of us over there to help them out.

Should be interesting, looks like there is a wine bar there and perhaps a winery too. So it won't be all for not. Something different I suppose. Was hoping a fellow fchatter would be in the area.

    Cheers!

Have fun, there might be some Fchatters out there, or willing to meet up, Crawford is close by, if you want to stop by Bush's ranch.

Waco is a college town, so the crowd will be 'young".......I suppose you could slide down to Austin, to liven things up....

You may find Waco a little warmer this time of year than Ridgefield, WA.

Sounds like it may not be too bad. Hanging with terrible Ted would be awsum! That guy is a hoot! " cat scratch feaver" I remember when that album came out, it was a favorite at many a kegger back in the day! I hope to have a free weekend to poke around a bit, will have to see how things play out once I'm there. As for the weather, it was 95 here yesterday and supposed to be warmer today. Aaaarrggg! Then in the 80's the rest of the week. I prefer it in the mid 70's myself. I spent quite a bit a time in a tank in the desert so I don't think I will be too bad off, unless the rocks start to melt. Thanks for all the posts! It would be great to meet some of the Texas crew in the area!

    Cheers!

There is a small dirt track on the north side of town that we make it to sometimes. Its half way between us and friends in Dallas. Heart O Texas speedway. Think they race every Friday and Saturday night.

Hahah, someones status message on Facebook:

In Waco, why do most of the women have to be ghetto trash, pregnant or already have 50 kids with 50 men?

I've visited H.O.T. several times back in the early 90's. They had "non-alcoholic" & "alcoholic" sections for seating. Saw a guy holding his ~3yr old daughter over a urinal so she could relieve herself. There was even a teenager who brought his pet opossum to the races. In other words, it's a VERY entertaining venue.

Hey don't knock Waco we live just north of there!

It beats the traffic and idiot drivers in Dallas.

What is there to see or do in Waco? Any good steak houses? I will be passing through next month spending a couple of days in town. Flying into Austin and driving up. Thinking about a day in Austin and a day in San Antonio as well. Is it worth the trip over to SA?

Waco is home to Baylor University, a private college. Austin is home to University of Texas, the largest college in Texas, and the fourth largest college in the US. So, Austin could be considered the college town. But, it's Summer, so neither is a college town right now.

As already mentioned, College Station is 90 miles down the road (TX State Hwy 6), and NASA is racing at Texas World Speedway on July 30-Aug 1. (www.texasworldspeedway.com) College Station is the real college town in Texas (Texas A&M, #5 in Nation), but not in the Summer either.

+1 for SA. You have to see the Alamo and the Riverwalk.
"Salt Lick" Restaurant outside of Austin for BBQ.

Decided to spend two nights in SA on the Riverwalk. Any "must" places to eat or are they all tourist traps? In other words, any places to specifically avoid? Mrs. dak has been scoping out Food Channel favorites in Austin and SA. How about the Tip Top Cafe? Is it as good as it looks on TV?
