Bryan......showing my age I clearly remember going to Algar regularly in the early 70s and seeing the the same C/4, Daytona and Dino sit for months. Heck my dad bought his first Ferrari, a 330 GTS from Jamie Wyeth for the princely sum of $6500 in 1972. They did not have a very big market back then.

Given that they do depreciate like normal cars, I guess the statement "It's just a car" holds more true now than it used to.

I think I've even heard tales of F355s selling for under list on these boards...

348s sold at big discounts at the end. I think 456s did also. Wouldn't surprise me if late TRs did also. Those were tough days for Ferrari dealers. I wonder also if 308s could be bought below list 1980-82. Now that I think of it, Mondials probably were available below MSRP also. We know that 430s and scuds sold below list also at the end.

As for Californias, I'm sure Ferrari is not selling as many as hoped. The timing of the launch could not have been worse. The debut in Santa Monica was during the same week markets imploded. However, Ferrari is clearly reducing supply, so not all dealers have cars available.

Maybe Ferrari should be offering special financing incentives like they did for the 348s when they were languishing. Like the Big 3 and foreign manufacturers they bury the cost of the financing in the car. Sure it reduces margins. But it is proven to move the cars.

Don't shoot me for this suggestion. I am a believer in paying cash for these less-than-logical, but fun toys.
