ok, here's the deal. I'm 19, in college (Daytona Beach), and don't have anywhere near enough money to afford one of these cars..yet. Someday I'd really like to have a 355, and I'm pretty sure that at some point I'll be able to afford one. Anyway, my question is, would I be welcome in a Ferrari dealership? I woulden't plan on pretending I was about to buy one or anything, I'd just really like to see some of these cars up close.

I don't know about any dealerships up your way, but if you get down to South Florida go to Shelton Ferrari in Ft Lauderdale. They are always very nice and don't seem to have any problem with letting people look around. They always have a large inventory on hand so you will get to see alot of cars in one stop.

My experience was not that pleasant at the Ferrari dealer in Central Florida (Orlando). I walked in, and no one was around, but then eventually someone came up to me, and we talked a little. I asked if I could sit in one to see if it would fit me (I'm 6'2") and the sales guy told me that if NBA players buy these cars all the time, I should have no problems.
Compare that to my experience at Shelton... (And while I did go with William), I was treated VERY well. Not only did I get to sit in a 360 spyder, but I was invited to sit in the ENZO that was on the premesis.
Too bad Martin is such a good guy, he gets my business (if there ever is any).

Not really Ferrari, but back in the day, when I was about 8, there was a Lambo/Porsche/Lotus dealer in Austin, my Dad took me there for my Birthday (in reality he was there to test drive a 911), everyone was very nice, They let me sit in a white/white Countach (beautiful) and a brand new green Esprit, was a very memorable moment for me as a youngster, and left a lasting impression. I'm sure my dad being a possible customer had something to do with it, but still, I doubt many dealers would welcome a little kid to come in and wander around and sit in 100k+ cars. I don't think its still there, but if it was I'd definately head that way in about 7 or 8 years.

Cochese- Well it helps that i used to work for Ferrari and i know all the people there.(not that dealership anyway) I know that all dealers are not the same but i am sure it does help alot that i know them. But as for Shelton thats my second home and they treat everyone with the same respect as if they were going to buy one of the cars, and the people there are wondeful. They are a differnet breed thats for sure.

I can also say that even thou i did work for Ferrari i must say going into other dealers they would still treat you like crap and those are the ones out there that only care about the money anyway from what i have seen.

    enjoy

Well in Mass you have Ferrari of New England. They are in Boston. I bought a sign from them. Mark Mina and I believe he is in Service. He was very nice over the phone but that does not mean anything about the sales staff when you walk in.
Usually if you are up front with them you will get treated very well. Shelton has great sales staff. very knowledgable and very attentive. Benn or Bud or Will, the manager will help you out and show you around if they are not busy. Otherwise just pop in your head there and ask for Benn or Will and if they are busy ask if you could see the cars and that Martin from Cavallino suggested you may ask them.

    Rick,
thanks for the roses there. Gheez if you'd be a girl I'd say you are hitting on me LOL then I know better (you have good taste...Nicole...just close the damn deal!~....little inside joke)
Then I could not help you with a brand new car so I'd have to refer you to Shelton anyhow :)

    Here is another suggestion:
become a member of the Ferrari Club in the NE. They have events every now and then. mostly summer and you can attent those and nose around cars on display at various events. If you go to their track events you may hitch a ride if you ask someone friendly. Carbon started this way and became the biggest Enzo fan!

Go in, buy a t-shirt, chit chat with the parts guys and ask if they can arrange a tour. Drop a few bucks to show that you're not wasting their time...

I'm not sure if this would work or not. When I went to Motorsports of Scottsdale a few months ago my mom bought me a Lambo hat ($42 USD). I then asked the guy if we could take pictures of the cars and he said that I could take only !!ONE!!. I was surrounded by Lambo's and Ferrari's, and only ONE picture. The sad part was that he actually followed us arround the dealer to make sure.

Ferrari of Atlanta seems to treat its visitors well, especially if you profess your desire to own one someday. I see people there with cameras taking photos nearly everytime I'm there!

When I was in my mid-20s I visited the old Ferrari dealership in Setauket, Long Island and asked to sit in a new 308 they had on the floor, and they let me do so, even though it was clear I wasn't there to buy. (The next 3-series F-car I sat in was the one I was going to buy, and that was this past February!)

I'm not sure if they let people sit in cars nowadays unless they're serious customers, but it probably doesn't hurt to ask (gently).

The bottom line is, don't let these places intimidate you!

Ok, well Ferrari of central FL is probably where I'll go, if I decide to go. I still feel weird doing it, though I guess people probably do it all the time. I guess my best bet is just to be upfront, tell them that someday I'll buy, but not for quite awhile. Thanks for the help

The bottom line is there are folks who love cars and those that are out to make a buck. If you meet up with the former working as a salesman (and they aren't busy with a deal - they have to eat too :), they will understand where you are coming from and they'll encourage your interest. Rest assured, those folks are out there, but you'll have to go out to find them.

If you meet up with the latter, well, pacify yourself with the knowledge that you'll like own a Ferrari before they do. :)

I spend many years wandering into Ferrari of Central Fla just to see what there was. Most of the time I talked to Bill (who no longer works there) and hes was very helpful. If things were slow he'd take me out to the garage to see a Superfast they had in for serivce or many other interesting cars thru the years. One Saturday I went in an a number of the older cars they had had in the showroom were no longer there. I commented to Bill that they were gone and he said yes this was the Ferrari dealership and not the Ferrari museum. All said in jest with a big simile:) Later I did buy my F-car from them.

I have been to Ferrari of Central FL a number of times and have found them to be very helpful. I have noticed that there is usually only one or two salesmen around, but once you start talking to them and let them know your intentions, they seem to know the situation and don't try to sell you on the spot. I have been able to sit in a number of models and that actually helped me decide against a TR because I am 6'2" and my head rubbed the headliner. With your knowledge from this site, I think anyone at a dealership would love to talk about anything Ferrari.
