Walter, I'm going to go look at a '59 3500 GT this weekend...barn find. Says it runs but needs minor restoration. He want $15K! What should I look for: 1. Where do I find the numbers (engine, chasis) so that I can post them here (he says th eengine is original to the chasis)? 2. What other things? For that money....I think I'll be taking it home tomorrow. Thanks. Rob
wow. even if the engine is not correct for that chassis that is indeed fantastic deal. keep us posted
I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight....I played it very cool though...said I was "interested" in checking it out...but restorations can be expensive you know.
Hi Rob, sorry for the delayed response but I was in Paris for the RETROMOBILE. Yep, 15K $ is very cheap - but please keep in mind that a comprehensive resto on a Touring-body is expensive and not easy. About your questions: 1. the VIN is stamped on the left front hub (drivers side) of the front-suspension. Engine-no is on the bellhouse of the motor. 2. check good conection of the gears, look for rust on the rear wheel-arches,look for rust around the screen-frames and check if you find any wet in the trunk or footroom. Important is that the car is complete. Very expensive is the cover of the carburetor-filter. Check if its there. The inj.-versions doesn`t need this. Looks like a very intersting car. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK! Ciao! WalterI][/I]
In a 3500 GT , you will find all needed numbers as in attached pictures: 1) Engine number just on the bellhouse of the motor 2) Chassis number (i.e. AM101*nnnn*) on the left front suspension 3) A riveted alu badge with engraved : autotelaio (chassis type/number) - motore ( engine type/number) , could be also in position 4 4) An other engraved alu badge with Superleggera Touring body number We are waiting for pictures and good luck .
