http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/27/obit.walton/index.html From what I've read about the Waltons, he seemed like a down-to-earth, nice guy (who was also a decorated Vietnam vet). I just don't understand what he was doing in that plane considering it looks like something my uncle Denny could've assembled out of his empty beer cans. C. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The guy used to fly crop dusters so he obviously knew how to fly. Probably a mechanical failure. With $18 Billion I think I would rather be in the left seat of a G5.
Tragic, no doubt, yet interesting, too. Two Apache pilots die yesterday in Iraq. What's bigger news? You be the judge. Just a thought.
The original poster said something about the plane looking like it was made out of beer cans, then the second poster said it was an ultralight, thought he was referring to an ultralight beer, like some cheap little joke, hah. Sorry, I don't know much about planes. later
apparantley FOX headlines had it spelled "Walton air dies in plane crash" of course i saw this on another fourm so i guess it has a great tendency to be fake, but if its true....what a horrible pun.
It was big news here in Arkansas. Apparently Walton lived in Wyoming but spent a lot of time around Bentonville, Arkansas, the Wal-Mart headquarters. According to the news, he was the 11th richest guy in the world, worth a reported 18 BILLION dollars.
I am very sorry to hear this.. A couple of years ago Brian Redman's "Targa 66" driving group came out here to Barber's Motorsports and I was invited in with them. During that weekend I was taking pictures of an OLD Bugatti someone brought to drive out on the track. The owner came up to me and told me to climb in if I wanted to. He was really really nice. He even told me to take it out on the track to see how drove. I'm thinking no way because of $$$$$. Besides, it would have taken me an hour to learn all the switches, levers, and other controls it had. I found out just last month that that guy was one of the Walton children. Back then when he introduced himself to me I just didn't think anything about the name. I cannot remember which one he was. I sure hope this wasn't him.
It felt wierd driving to Jackson Hole Airport today and hearing this on the news. We were flying back home. We didn't see any fire trucks or emergency people yesterday even though we were nearby at the time. Btw, i liked Wyoming and Yellowstone was incredible. Pics soon
I think that was him. SUPER SUPER SUPER nice to me that afternoon. I should have wondered who could afford to let total strangers drive his Bugatti. I am sorry for his loss.
