I'm an avid old car collector and have plenty of things to keep myself occupied, but have always had a burning desire for a Ferrari. It's the car that I had on my wall as a kid and I look at them constantly. I'm looking for advice on what vehicle to start with. I've heard that a non-transaxle car may be the way to start since they don't require the entire engine out for service and that I could possibly do many of the repairs myself. I also understand the value of a Ferrari and vary greatly if you do your own service versus having it done by Ferrari mechanic.

Looking for advice and direction. I tend to like older cars because I can do some things on them myself, but I genuinely like the unsophisticated ride of an older vehicle too. I also enjoyed the less complex cars without everything being computerized. There are very few Ferrari's I don't like so I'm generally open. I do like the 308's, 328', Testarossa's, etc.

    Opinions?

A lot of people will tell you 328s are the most reliable old Ferrari’s around. I’m a brand new first time Ferrari owner (328) and I had the same question.

While I tend to think the 308 looks a little better I went with a 56k mile example that was in my budget. I drove it home 400 miles and couldn’t be happier with it.

The sound that small v8 behind you makes is amazing. I have an old Shelby, and old 911. My wife’s first comment after riding in our new 328 was wow now I get the whole Ferrari thing.

I was and still am on a budget. Costs be damned buy a 288 GTO! Good luck
