I am interested in what you guys have as far as stereos go. I have an 86 Testarossa with the factory tape deck and I definitely want to upgrade that along with some speakers.

I want to do the job myself so I would like to hear from others who did the same. What equipment did you go with, amps, head unit, speakers etc... Pictures would be great. Also, where can I get my hands on a wiring harness to adapt to an aftermarket cd player? Or is there another way to go about installing one?

    Thanks guys!

There was a thread in classic I think by MDshore348 that showed how he made a nice subwoofer enclosure for placement next to the passenger footwell and also had info for speaker choice, amp, and head unit. I am also going to be doing my stereo this summer so I will be going that route also (but with a smaller amp).

I suggest a Tubi. Best music you'll ever hear...

Haha, I was waiting for that. Believe me it is on the list of things to do.

FYI: There was no OEM Ferrari stereo, not until the mid-90's I believe. The cars came pre-wired for speakers but that's all. So chances are, whatever you planning on doing on the audio front, you should be able to just swap the new ones in with relative ease.

Anyway, IMO, I wouldn't waste too much time on this as a Ferrari is never meant to be a testing bed for stereos, especially if you are planning on getting the Tubi. I would just get whatever name brand is out there right now on the market and be done with it. As for the deck, I am looking into the Parrot Rhytm n' Blue unit as a replacement unit when the exsisting one goes. It is a CD player, MP3 player and most of all, came with BlueTooth ready all in one. I know it is not a name brand for stereos, but with today's digital technology, I doubt it if it is that much differences between one and another.

Current setup: Nakamichi CD, a/d/s amp and OEM speakers (The amp was put in by dealership at time of delivery along with a Denon CD, the Denon died a few years back thus it was replaced with the Nakamichi unit.)

Really, I did not know that. I will pull it apart later this week and take a look in there. Thanks.

Best thing is to install a hard drive in the car so you can upload 1,000s of songs straight into it. No more CDs or tapes or even iPods to mess with

I installed a Blaupunkt Santa Fe (they look kinda german and have easy to find buttons for controls), 10 disc cd in the trunk, rockfordfosgate 6 1/2 spkr with silk tweeter in the stock locations and a Mephis 50w x 2 amp under the pass foot panel ( made out of aluminium). Mostly, I listen to the tubi with the windows down. You can buy last years model radio fairly cheap from Crutchfield or SW Stereos (somewhere on the east coast). I spent a little time and made the speaker enclosures seal better against the dash and panels. YMMV.
