Yeah - Dave, the TR is the cheapest to insure by a long way. Yellow even more so. 328 were generally expensive, and 308 even worse. Mondial is a good option though...

In answer to your original question, a 328 shouldn't be a prob to insure- I was 26 when I had mine and had no problem getting cover. It was always surprisingly cheap!

I think it is fair to say you can always get cover, the only question is how much you are prepared to pay...

    Dave,

    Welcome to Fchat.

Off Topic: Yes, colour matters. The number-crunchers (actuaries, etc.) at insurance companies just run the stats, no great rocket-science here. Black cars & bikes have more crashes, ostensibly as they're harder to see in the daytime, so it's the most expensive colour. A typical weighting might only be 3-5% but it's a difference. From memory, silver cars are next, as hard to see in rain, fog or low sun (this time of year). I think red has a weighting also, as it's associated with aggresive drivers and sports cars - funny that! Cheapest colours in UK are, again from memory, brown, white, non-metalics (cheaper paint if repaired) and what's known in the trade as 'death blue' - all the unpopular stuff, essentially.

In terms of visiblity, I always drive with side-lights on even in the daytime - a habit picked up from years of biking which one day might just help a half-sighted Volvo driver not to pull straight out in front of me - do you guys mostly do the same?

On topic: I'm impressed that you're thinking of buying an Fcar at 21 - I was p***ing my wages up the wall on booze and chasing girls at that age and certainly had none saved up (for anything sensible like a house, never mind a car). I was under the impression that most insurance brokers would fall off their chair laughing if you put "under 28" in the same sentence as "drive a Ferrari", but there must be specialists in this market - as for all niches in insurance. Check the back of TG or Evo magazine for likely specialists, or see those recommended on the FOC (ferrariownersclub.co.uk) website, which I think include Aon, Luker Rowe, Liverpool Victoria, Nowell Richards and several others.

    Good luck.
    J.

    But, hey, we digress.

In terms of insurance the biggest obstacle I have had is not age but ensuring the damn thing is garaged.

Yes indeed. If you put, "drive a Ferrari" in the same sentence as "live in London" and "don't have a garage", the insurance brokers usually need hospital treatment after cracking a rib or two from laughing so hard.....

My 308gt4 has cost the same for the last 10 yrs I live in Lincolnshire in a quiet village cost approx £200 (as a second car)now 35 yrs old though(me that is). When I was 21 my 944 turbo cost approx £600 so would think a older Ferrari would be around the same. I know a young lad(18 yrs)who got a quote for a mid 80,s 911 carrera for approx £1000. Try AON or Liverpool&Victoria and use it as a 2nd car. Good luck If you want any more info I work in Lincoln you can send me a PM

Considering what I was paying then, you should expect to be looking to pay £3-4,000 or so , depending on NCB.

The following brokers have accept me under 25 on Ferraris and Porsche (as long as you have previous sports car experience and car value less than £100,000):
    Tesco
    Direct Line
    A.S.A insurance .

I usually have got 10-20 quotes each year and these guys have been cheapest. I wish I could use L&V , but they said no to me!

    Hope this helps

Dave, when you go for quotes I know this sounds obvious, but make sure you are the ONLY named driver, and no-one else or you can look forward to a major hit or even outright rejection. It has a big bearing on the costs if you don't restrict coverage. I use Norwich Union and got a good deal, but then again I am an old git :D
Best of luck, hope you get your car soon.
