I have always been a Porsche guy; I have been looking to buy an F430 but a Gallardo seems like a great option as well.
Here is the question. I want a 6 speed in either Orange or Black. I want to spend less then 100k.

What options do I need? More importantly what MY? I have heard that the MY06 is a much better car. Also I live in NorCal with very steep drive ways.... When was the front lift made standard? I really need a little help, thanks in advance

You may have difficulty finding an 06 for under 100k without very high miles or questionable history. The high miles isn't necessarily a bad thing though.

The 05 model year was the first with a lift and you could probably find one around 100k. There are a lot of 04's under 100k.

There are deals to be had though.

A 2004 Lambo Galardo will sell depending on region for about $100k plus or minus 15 grand. I just traded in my 2004 Galardo for a new 560-4. I got $96k as a trade in on the new car.

My 2004 did not have lift, my 1010 does as standard. I did not find the "no lift" a problem as long as you senter dip and rises from an angle. I must admit the lift is a nice feature.

I like the F430 as well. it is a hard chioce

Good luck on whatever you buy.

    Thank you!!!

From what I have seen the '06's seem to have more hp and better gearing as well. Is it worth spending the extra cash on? It seems that I am paying roughly 90k for and '04-05; and an '06 is "cheap" at +120k!
    Is it that much better???
Also remember that this is my first Italian supercar. I have "only" owned Porsche's in the past and have decided that I want something completely different.

Just on a value you basis the Gallardo is +/- 20-30k Cheaper then its rival the F430. Do you think that this makes more sense? ; it's repair cost should be slightly cheaper (audi parts) then Ferrari esp after saving +25k off the top?!? Hope my train of thought makes sense.

Any problems that these cars are prone to that I should be aware of BEFORE buying? Of course I will get a proper PPI... thanks for helping a newbie

I have owned 39 Porsches, (have a custom built supercharged 997 in my garage right now), and bought my 1st Lamborghini a year and a half ago. My car is a 04 egear, and it is no longer stock (RWD, exhaust, LP560 front bumper and much more), and it is pretty quick (faster than both a 06 and a 07 car I've driven). I have found these cars are all very different, some faster than others. Since you want a gearshift car the gearing wont really effect you, and if you only listen to one thing I say listen to this, never buy the cheapest Lambo, buy the best car, the cheapest car will usually mean the most expensive car down the road. I went looking for a 04 car, it weighs the least (no lift system or silly glass bonnet), and I looked a while and found a great car. These cars are different from Porsches and from Ferrari's (I've owned 4) as well, they may not need to have belts replaced like a 360, but the parts and service are not that cheap, the car is a pain in the butt to work on.

From a Porsche fan background... either cars will be a real breakthough. My view is to go for Ferrari first, then Lambo...

+ 1 Every now and then you see an exotic car on Craigslist advertised at prices tens of thousands lower than the market. I say SCAM everytime.

    Not even close to legit.

If you are looking to spend less than $100K, the you should focus on an 04. The lift system is over rated so don't get hung up on the fact you won't get one in an 04. Even the cars that do have list systems, usually have a few scrapes under the front chin. The eGear software in most, if not all the 04s, can be upgraded to exactly the same version as the 06 cars so don't let that issue concern you as well.

For what it's worth, I came from an '07 997 GT3 into my Lambo. I first looked at 06-08's and ultimately ended up spending a few extra $$$'s and got a Superleggera. It was well worth it to me to spend the extra money for the car I really wanted. So, I totally agree with the others when they say don't go cheap on one of these cars. Find a well sorted 04-06 in the color you like and with the options you want. Buy it and don't look back. While the Porsche is a wonderfully engineered car, it doesn't evoke the same emotions as when you first start a Lambo or step on the gas. The sound is incredible. The Gallardo will not be as fast as a 997 Turbo (especially the new one) but the driving experience is sublime. Porsche builds a great sports car but it is not as exotic as a Lambo--not meaning that in a snobby way. Good Luck with your hunt and let us know what comes your way!

I have had about 15 Porsches including 911 Turbos and got a Gallardo two months ago.

Wow wow wow... it is head and shoulders above any Porsche I have owned. Mine is an '06 for the reasons you mentioned essentially the up in power, exhaust and the nose lifting capacity. My guess you can find a deal very close to your price although I have not checked prices since I got mine.

BTW it is faster than any of the 911 Turbos I had also... All my stuff is and stays stock.
