want to drop my 84 308 an inch or so

whats the easiest way to lower my car? I put 16" wheels & tires on, and now I think the front has too much space from top of the tire to fender lip.. I know there was a shock that can be used to lower the car, but last I remember it was hitting some upper or lower control arm, and that needed to be grinded? I dont want to grind anything... is there a what I have been reading.. a plug and play way to lower my car?
