After talking w/ guys at Hooter lunch, I found out there is only 1 store, Bobby Archer (sp?) in this area. Does anyone else know where I can try it on & buy it in Dallas metroplex area? I think I saw some helmets at shops of some dealership, but don't remember which one. I don't want to buy a helmet on internet w/out trying it on. BTW, if you can recommend any good model or brand, I appreciate the info, too. I need it for Evo school, and can't wait to have fun!!!
Yoshi, here is a link to their site. http://www.bobbyarchermotorsports.com/ All helmets fit differently, Bell, Beiffe, etc.... You need just to go over thre & try some on.
Simpson's HQ is in New Bransfels. Worth a drive over. I pass it on the way to tube the river! Kelly Willis tonight at Gruene Hall. Mmmmmmmm. Kelly Willis. or Mrs. Bruce Robison......sigh.
I have a brand new Arai Open Face Helmet that is Seal Grey ... I bought it two years ago but now that I try it on out of the box it's too small ... it is a size small if you're interested ... never used ... I guess my head grew? Dario PM ME
Bobby Archer is a great first choice. There's Motorsport Sales off of 75 at Midpark. There's a shop over near Mesquite. If you're okay with a motorcycle helmet, there's the bike place on I35 in Carrollton. Many events accept M95 (motorcycle) as well as SA95 (auto). But some require SA95. I imagine the multiple Harley Davidson places around would also sell M95 or M00 helmets.
Oh, and definitely try it on... and buy the one that fits best. Don't buy off the Internet based on sizing in a store... even the same size of the same model of the same brand helmet will often vary enough to give you a headache. Heads are really hard and imperfect in shape.
Yoshi - Gerry sent me an e-mail re: safety gear for next week's Evo event..he said we can borrow helmets that they have. I am sure you want one of your own, but I know that you don't have a lot of time between now and next week. Frances
I bought mine here: http://www.smileysracing.com/locations.php?pKey=977634&sKey=69f7947acfac5bb1c1ff6b47ab884eeb Good selection of Simpson and Bell helmets. Forget internet pricing, you want to try it on to know it fits.
I guess this helmet deal is occupying my mind more than I thought. I dreamed running around the town getting a helmet last night! Found one look like SpeedRacer's helmet at unknown shop, then they tried to sell me Cowboy's helmet instead. Then I found another one at different shop, but it was reserved for someone else, and I had to pay $500 if I wanted it. Strange dream..... I still don't have a helmet yet.....
Thank you very much to Frances who motivated me to drive to Richardson, and let me get the helmet. I did ended up w/ Speed Racer type helmet. Closed face helmet was too tight, and I start feeling clustrophobia!! (seriously) I couldn't see the side unless I move my head! Well, at least w/ this Simpson helmet, you can see my face.
I ended up getting the speed racer style helmet too! (maybe mine would be considered the "trixie" version). For those of you looking for any accessories or supplies, John over at Motorsport Sales was very helpful and also gave us a very generous discount off our purchases. Brian-are you still trying to meet us up there on Friday afternoon? For anyone driving up for Friday's class from the south end of Dallas, a few of us are are meeting at Valley View mall in the JCPenney parking lot at 6:30 a.m. and driving up together. I think Yoshi is also interested in folks to drive up on Saturday also.
