I need a dead Mondial fusebox to allow for prototyping a replacement. If you have one you'd like to sell, swap, or donate in return for a prototype unit, please PM me.

    Thanks, Dave

Let me know if you need some help once you get one.......
I have a bunch of friends in the electronics prototyping buisness that could design a new one with improvements in mind. Very qualified people.

    Ron,

Will do. I suspect however that there is no market for these as no-one appears to have any dead ones :D

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

    I disagree.
I believe there is a huge market; it's not that there are dead ones, it's that we are all limping a long with sick ones as there is NO replacement.

I will buy the first decent upgraded box that is robust.

There was a guy in UK that was delaminating his to try to repair it...can you find the thread?

He was chasing problems all thru the car!.......

Then he needed the ignition boxes....

I think Clive in Singapore was going to have one up and running by August.
    I'm hopeful.

threw one out about a year ago: damn.

still have the cover though on the old one...need to proto that ? :)

assume you are talking the T cabriolet, think there are small differences on the cab vs coup

I'm hoping that with all the contacts and resources that Ricambi has, we can get something up an running fairly promptly. My goal is to have them available as a complete replacement item, rather than as a repair for existing ones; too many variables...

I don't plan on making anything that "looks" exactly original. For those folks interested in concourse perfection, I'll be unable to help. My goal is functionality first and foremost. I hope to have a generic or modular box made up that can be used in all variants (if possible), provide a few extra circuits for those interested, and bolt up and connect to the existing connections. I'm tempted to ditch fuses and go to circuit breakers, although that's a discussion and decision for later.

One thing I will definitely do is add a relay in for the fog lamps.... I am sick to death of that melting switch in the center console :(

great idea - the more like an airplane he better.

I would even support ditching the circuit board for hard wiring - robust reliability

    ditto

also, the connectors from fuse to body are a real drawback, otherwise would have constructed something faster: weak point and high temps too.

Constructing the cover shouldn't be a problem: even tap plastics allows one to fab. this.

Will try to get ahold of some used ones....See that the cab and coupe part numbers are the same

    David,

I have lent a box to some folks who were trying to fabricate a replacement. That effort appears to have reached a dead end and I have asked for my box to be sent back to me. Should I get it back I will be happy to send it your way.

The box came out of my Mondial 8 but I beleive it was actually from a 3.2 Mondial as it has the new type blade fuses.

I will let you know as soon as I have confirmation that it is being returned.

One of the original ideas was to make a replacement printed circuit board to renew the box as the main problem was delamination and conduction inadequacy of the original card. See:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136111651&postcount=22

Judging from the side of the card there look to be about 4 operative layers of conductor. Would it be possible to hard wire the fusebox with aviation grade wire, using 4 pre-built wiring harnesses - each replicating a wiring level on a level of the original card, and then overlaying each other?

The owner would remove the original card, then install each sub-harness one-by-one on top of each other, then be forever done with this crappy design. It would be a stepwise aproach to solving a complicated problem permanently if done carefully.

It may require a deeper rear cover, but that is not a big deal to have fabricated at any machine shop.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for each layer of the circuit board?

Update - I hopefully have one on the way to me. I'll advise when it arrives.

Russ - you pretty much read my mind :) The whole circuit board idea was stupid as a design and it went downhill from there as it went into production.

The other "main" problem with these boards is the connectors to the wiring harness. Those little pins have too small a surface area to handle the current being passed across them and so they get too hot. By careful evaluation of the connector terminal, I hope to be able to use a different style pin that will contact with an increased surface area to alleviate this problem. If I have to have custom pins made, I will. I really don't care about the price because at the end of the day, it's crazy to even contemplate that an entire car could be forced off the road because a stupid fuse box has melted and replacements are not available.

Your replacement part, will not only be better, but at its WORST only the same price IMO. I will buy one just to have a spare, jerk out the NEW OLD PART I put in 18 months ago for Concorse possible events, long term original equipment issues. and be done with it.

    Lusso64,

Any news on the replacement box ??????????????

I am at the point of not feeling comfortable driving more than 20-30 miles from home thanks to my VERY flakey box. This is NOT a good feeling! I bought the Mondial so I could DRIVE it places, as in mountains, beaches, places in between. May have been wishful thinking, but with dependable electrics I feel it is an attainable goal.
