Hello everyone, I'm in search for the Meri Kits F.1 model Books Guide book on the 1982 Ferrari 126 C2 and if you have a copy that you want to sell that would be great, just PM me with a price.

Also if you have a copy but rather not sell it, would it be possible to scan only the color pictures of the real car and not the Meri Kit 126 model in the book and then email the images to me, I would ready appreciate it.

Believe or not, I did a search on Yahoo, Google, and flicker to find some real images of the 126 C2 Ferrari with no luck finding any and it apparent that this book is extremely hard to find for purchase. :(

F1 Modeling from Japan makes an even better 126C2 book, although the Meri one is also good.

Question: Thanks Patrick for the images you emailed me, you're awesome!

Question: Does anyone know if Ferrari used carbon fiber materials in their 126 C2's? I'm not sure but didn't carbon fiber made its way in the F1 cars about mid 90's? So I’m assuming that a lot of fiberglass was used in the body shell and the chassis bottom tray if that's the correct name for it.

One of the images that Patrick provided me showed a small portion of the bottom tray in the engine compartment which looks like some type of fiber wrap texture and it also looks like it was painted a slight greenish-black color. Anyone knows how to paint raw fiberglass textures, using an airbrush?

Hi Rob, They used a lot of aluminum ( body) for the 126C2 and definitely no carbon fibre. If you have the Promocom car as a reference: they used the carbon was shipping purposes...light and strong. You might be right about the fiberglass: the airscoops for the brakes were fiberglass too. You can simulate raw fiberglas on plastic with "lace curtains"

You can still order the book at Merikits

I personally find the Meri booklets disappointing. As an overview of the C2 it's good, but if you want to build a detail model then it's very disappointing. There are very few detail photos, and too small size. There's not even a good cockpit photo. As a help for a model builder it's disappointing. That it comes from a kit manufaturer is even more disappointing.

if you look at photos of the monocoque as it was raced after Pironi's German GP accident, you'll see that Ferrari put local carbon fiber reinforcement panels in place around the driver opening. This was to address the failure mode that occurred in both Villeneuve's and Pironi's accident with the chassis bending and subsequently failing in this area. This modification was retained for the following year's 126C2B. It can be seen fairly well in photos at:

While the 126C2 was a major advancement in stiffness over the prior year's 126CK/CX (bonded aluminum vs. riveted aluminum structure), it was still much more flexible than many of the competitors that year, especially the early users of all-composite structures like McLaren and Lotus.

Thanks ER for this explanation. But it looks like a shell in the aluminum monocoque to protect the driver.
