That poor Avanti! Yes it has been shown here in the past. Walter had quite the treasure trove down there. CH

With the extreme heat & humidity in FL, kind of a poor location to store valuable cars in a tin box. Not to mention hurricanes...
I met Walter and his collection in March of 2010 and the cars were being restored at the time. He was a nice guy to talk with and asked to NEVER post any pictures or video I took that day online. The cars looked like they just left the barn from Florida and great care was taken to make sure they arrived to the new location looking the same with heaps of dirt still sitting on the hoods.
Wow is that one of only two Ghia-Aigle bodied Ferrari 212's? The other is a cabriolet I saw on 'Chasing Classic Cars'. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_6DUEiFqps&feature=related[/ame]
The cab in the video is being fully restored and will be shown at Pebble Beach in the next 2-3yrs. I wish I knew what the 'finder' paid for it.
Which cars were supposed to be restored? The 166, the 410 Superamerica-style 250 Coupe, the 275, the 308 - they're all still unrestored.
it was almost 3 years ago when I was there and Walter said to me he was restoring the cars and making the building a museum of some sort. If it were closer I would try to stop in and see what's changed . From what you say I think we should be asking you the questions as you sound like you have the most up to date information. What do you know?
None of the cars mentioned have been restored - but that's not to say that they won't be. In fact, many of the things you've said are true (or will be coming to fruition in the near future), but I believe some of the more passive details have changed since you spoke with Walt three years ago. Additions to the collection also might have occurred since then. I think it's awesome that you've personally spoken with Walt - it's my understanding that very few people have ever, or will ever, have the opportunity to speak with him directly. If you're at liberty and/or so inclined, I'm interested in learning more about the man behind what is now an infamous and increasingly unique Ferrari collection.
I don't know Walt only met him the day I was invited to visit (a bunch of Ferrari's from a hurricane) the collection. There was some local guys from a metal restoration shop helping him fix the bodies that were damaged they probably could answer most of your questions but can't remember the name of the shop. I have over 6 minutes of HD video from the day I visited this collection that I can't post online but will show anyone personally.
1978 512 BB Competizione (1 of 4) s/n 24131. This car was a NART entry at Le Mans in '78 but it failed to finish.
Google Walter Medlin, and go from there...Road & Track did an article before he turned into a total recluse.... Still living as far as I know, his kids will get them. That's a 512BB/LM Marcel corrected me in the other thread...
One thing is certain in that I wish Mr.Walt the best of luck in restoring his amazing collection and hopefully oneday he will share them completely with the rest of the Ferrari community, mainly us!!
I don't think that is in the plans. The much discussed 350 CanAm car that is being cut up back into a P4 now in Uk is one of his cars. I don't know if that gets him "even" with the IRS or not. He has children from his marriage, and another one also, if you read thru the IRS settlement. His support to his admin assistant is listed there. He's like 100 years old, by now?? Even the Court filings and litigation is old at this point. Do you see anything in the last decade??
I had been under the impression it was a 365BB derivative. I have FCA track day pictures of the car, from 15-20 years ago, but need to scan them first. KevFla
