I posted about a week ago regarding difficulty in raising the top for winter storage in the garage. I had tried everything and was about to give up and take it to a, oh no, shop. A local gentleman by the name of Will provided me his phone number and suggested that he might be able to help as he also owned a 97 spyder. After going through everything that I had done, his comment was, " well try tapping the motor that runs the top as it may just be stuck from lack of use". So, today, I went through the process but brought along a small ball peen hammer into the car. Pushed the top switch concurrent with a light tap on the motor, and walla, top started.

So there we go, another bit of information for everyone. From now on I will run the top up and down more frequently to ensure the motor does not get corroded. Will goes under the name of gus355 if you need electrical help.

Lastly, a new tool for working on the red beast, "a large hammer".

Watching the Canucks tonight, glass of wine and a smiling.

Glad to see I could help you Gary! I would probably suggest a brass or softer faced mallet but I know this trick has worked for me many times in the past and especially after hearing your scenario it sounded as if everything else was working correctly.

    Simply amazing! :)

Winter is gonna arrive here soon...but I don't ever put my 355 away for months at a time...any clear day--even if 0 degrees--is fair game to me! :)

Nice work! I used to carry a hammer in my MG for when the fuel pump would freeze up. Worked like a charm.
