This may be the "opening of a can of worms" but I let my car about a minute before a gentle drive off. Colder weather maybe up to 2 minutes if the temps are down in the high 30s or so. Everyone seems to have their preferance though...

i would say depends on the climate and how long you have let the car sit without use.

If you use it once a week, 2-3...and then ease her into first gear to warm up everything is fine.

If you use it monthly i would recommend full warm up on the temp gauage on the dash before you drive off.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Ok..my take. I drive my TR everyday. I warm up to just the first mark on the coolant guage. I keep the revs to under 3500 till the oil temp comes up ( gear box is warm about then) .....then when all is toasty....run revs to redline and enjoy !

BTW, I live in Florida so ambient temp is warmer in general.

You never want to rev the engine more than 3k or so until you get the oil temp up a little...at least to 70c I would say...
