How's the new garage going Roger?

I am putting commercial car showroom lighting in mine in a few weeks. Time to start setting it up the way it was intended.

good , thanks for asking . the guys are back after a 2 week break , and have a few extra set of hands around , so walls etc to the house are going up quick smart . the basement hasn't changed since pre xmas , only thing left is to plaster the walls and ceiling , epoxy the floor , put the lights in , garage door , and paint different emblems on the walls . the wife's 2 car garage at house level will be very normal

this is where I think the FIAT takeover was a good thing for Ferrari as is the Audi thing for Lambo

the quality has improved and you're getting better car, ... sure you may lose some idiosyncacies but in a lot of cases that is good.

Was speaking to Gerry the other day, seems there is going to be a limit on the number of people for this years rally which will mean getting in early .... you're going of course ?

Good idea to keep daily drivers seperate if you can. The comings and goings in wet weather make a hell of a mess of the floor. Be careful with the preparation of the floors before painting them. Done well it should last a long, long time. Also plan the lighting in the "good car garage" properly, it makes all the difference.
You can buy the genuine dealer signs on ebay if you keep an eye out. I have 3 so far and they look great.

What sort of garage cabinets are you going to use? I am thinking of something like these: http://www.showroomgarage.com/

thanks for the info , but nothing flash like what you are looking at . i have installed a tap fiting inside the basement , vac u maid outlets , 3 phase , heaps of single phase , floor sloped to the grate drain that runs along the garage door , and a key pad outside the garage door , so the car cleaner can come and go as he pleases , and wash / polish the cars in the basement without disturbing the wife , that can be a real headache if she is out and about .

    Repsol.

I've run it in on 15-40 mineral oil, next change will be to 5-40 synthetic.

I've used it for a long time with no problems and several people whose opinions I respect have recommended it.

I run AGIP in the gearbox, because it seems to work the best.

You bet! Although I suspect the roads won't be as good as the Snowy event...

On the other hand, the concours will be indoors and there won't be so many flies at the track day. :)

I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder. I can't stand things that aren't perfect. :(

My car had the infamous Daytona limited slip diff grunch. On full lock at low speed, it went thunk, thunk, thunk. This is normally caused when cars aren't used enough. The oil drains off the limited slip clutch plates, they have a sintered surface which rusts in nanoseconds and then the clutch plates grab. Plus the car was sticking in 2nd gear, which was annoying in traffic.

Daytona's (and Boxers) have a fantastic LSD which relies on the different speed of the axles to wind gears along a shaft and apply pressure to the clutch pack. It takes up smoothly and predictably and is the reason you can control the rear of the car with your right foot with ease.

However, in my case, the bearing which supports one side of the diff housing was spinning on the case. It wore in a mil or so, which affected the preload on the LSD and caused the thunking, as well as stuffing the crownwheel and pinion.

First picture shows the side plate assembly, 2nd is the good side with no bearing spin, 3rd is the worn side.

can you take a bigger picture showing how all this goes together ?

I can't get my head around where the surfaces meet with these parts so I know what looks bad and what is normal

Back to my origonal comment, a guy like that in the RR club i was once in [thats RangeRover, not the other Pommy job] was the best and most helpful person due to his daily contact with the product, secrets, tips and trade knowledge.Use this guys knowledge, its free and helpful, it is a chat/blog group, why not?

Sure he has made mistakes, but we all do [as i have with Mr.Goober] but life goes on, be a man, let it go, make up, move on, we are not on earth for all that long.
