    If you are in the NE like me.... you know we've had some DRASTIC weather changes recently.

    It took me ALL day to figure out I pumped 13 gallons of BAD GAS this morning.

    I realised I had fuel pressure, spark... but no ignition. I disconnected the inlet hose to my fuel rail and started pumping into 2 liter bottles. They are seriously 50% water! The heavier water + sediments sink right to the bottom..


    Check it out... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR>

    I'm taking all these gallon jugs back and demanding a refund tomorrow... should be interesting!

    I filed a compliant with the MDA fuel and the particular station. I don't know what will happen now... but at the very least, I need a new filter. I still can't beleive the stuff I collected is only what actually made it throught the filter :(

    And a refund!!! Id ask for free gas for the rest of my life or tell him you'll goto the state sargent general and they'll get put out of business!!!....plus any danage to your car :D

    oh, and it looks to be 1/3 water, but still WTF!!!

    89 octane petrol.

    I am on the water NE of detroit... so I probably saw more drastic changes. But last week we had a day of 63 degree F high..... followed by the most AMAZING thunder storm..... and the next day was a low of 4 degrees.

    Its hard to go after a gas station.. I know some people that got screwed and ended up eating the bill for removing fuel tank, draining tank/lines, new filter(s), plugs, etc..

    I unplugged the inlet to the fuel rail... and cranked the car over. I filled up gallon jugs this way.

    On a 328, if you remove the left rear tire and wheel well, you can get to the feed line and screen at the bottom of the port side fuel tank.

    If you're worried about sediments or contaminants, that's the place to drain from. You can clean and/or replace the screen at the same time.

    If you want to be thorough, there's also a drain plug right of center on the cross-over pipe between fuel tanks.


    Contaminated pump fuel is "one of those things" that happens once in a while. Gas stations keep their fuel tanks underground. The older ones are metal, and have been there for quite some time.

    This is especially an issue with the Spica-injected Alfa, which uses a tank filter that even water will clog. In 26 years, I've gotten watered fuel at least once, and fuel contaminated with beach sand once. Of course, over that period of time, I also once had the filter clogged by the paper remnants of a tie-wrap that was on the tank gauge sender when it was installed. (I've had this car longer than most people keep a spouse. ;))

    Many states are requiring stations to drain and remove old (rusting) underground pump tanks --- which is why a lot of former gas stations are being converted to convenience stores without fuel pumps, or just being closed.

    For gods sake NAME THE STATION so no one else gets this!!! And I hope you paied with a CC or got a recpt. The first thing they willl do is ask you to prove where you got the gas!
