... then I got distracted and decided to buy a new Daily Driver instead. I really want to do a full CS conversion on my 360 but I have determined that a more "pedestrian" sports car was a better fit for me at this point since I am just not comfortable driving my Ferrari to client meetings and daily running around.

So, I picked up a new cayman. My 3rd Porsche and I have to say I really love it. It is SLOW, but that's not the point. Well, 5.1 0-60 and 165 mph isn't exactly SLOW... but still feels gutless compared to my 360 and downright anemic compared to my twin-turbo bmw 550. Of course, that's not the point of the cayman and I'm already loving the handling and feel of this car.

I think it makes a great addition to my current stable, plus it gets 32 mpg on the highway. One day I'll get around to the CS conversion on the 360... and perhaps I'll throw a turbo in this cayman and address the only fault I can find with this fine automobile. A few iPhone pics to share. I'll do a better photo shoot in a few weeks but here are some snapshots from the first night of ownership. Enjoy!

I've lived in Texas and I know how big the car craze is over there. Your 360 is great but I'm not a fan of this p car. There are plenty of great daily drivers in the same price range with better stats but you already pulled the trigger so good luck.

It seems reliability and mpg were your biggest determining factors...

The cayman is NOT about stats. Porsche could easily put a big hp motor in there, and it is a shame that they won't, but that is part of the charm of this little car. It is about feel and experience... I've been on the slippery slope of huge HP cars before and I gave that game up a long long time ago. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, and thanks for sharing yours. True enthusiasts seem to appreciate the cayman for what it is, 0-60 times be damned.

I absolutely love that car and the prior "R" version too.

Love the Cayman! We thought about picking one up as a daily driver also. Comfortable, pretty sporty, and good looking. :)

    Congrats on your purchase.

Love the Cayman. Been thinking as others that it might make a nice next DD. I really like the new ones body style and interior. Only gripe is the depreciation on them is killer as they're not that popular except with true enthusiasts.

Yep, good call... handling was not the most important factor for me. I like the Elise but it is WAY too small for me as a daily driver. Love them, and given unlimited garage space I'd have one as a track toy... but I wanted nav, bluetooth, PDK, etc. I did consider the M3 but they are in limbo this year, plus my 550 in sport mode is pretty damn impressive in its own right so I thought the M3 would be too close in experience and a compromise between a great sedan and a true sports car.

Yep, cute is a great word for the cayman. My wife LOVES it and she'll be driving the pants off of it as well. Go ahead and say it... it is a hairdressers car. I'm man enough to take it. :)

My dealer gave me one while mine was in the shop and I really liked it. That DCT is amazingly smooth -- almost to the point of being an automatic but there again I didn't know enough to try the transmission in its various settings -- heck it took me 5 minutes to figure out that I actually had to put the key in the ignition and turn it to start the car.

test drove the Topless Cayman. Enjoyed the handling (of course not as much as the 360). It will make a fine DD.
Also, Porsche will not put a big HP motor in Cayman or Boxster. These cars output will always be limited by the 911.

No, 5.1 0-60 is not slow, especially for a base car! Maybe comparatively, but sill...and it is NOT a "hairdresser" car.

Congrats! I've always loved Porsches in white.
