I was going to get a 308 this year, but since my "Disengagement" with my girl, I decided I have enough 4 wheel toys, might as well get a two wheel one. It's a Ducati 748.

Thought you guys would like the pick I took today beside the Ferrari.

Ducati this year with the Ferrari next year....maybe a Christmas present.

It looks like a great bike, how fast does it do 0-60, 1/4 mile?

Stay single and buy yourself a Boxer instead of the 308. Nice bike btw- my favorite looking Ducati, but damn if i could ever get comfortable on that bike. Ride safe and enjoy the hell out of it!

I could live with one of those.

While I love the Duc too, "living" with one of those is a difficult proposition for many folks who own those bikes. Please ride it safely. Wear leather, wear the best helmet money can buy, check your six, and respect the bike.

I would agree with you to a point. The Ducati is like the Ferrari of motorcycles. It is not comfortable by any stretch of the imagination, breaks more then and 5 Jap bikes, requires maintenance every 6,000, and can usually be outrun by any similar Jap bike in it's territory. Plus it costs 2-3 times more then a comparable Jap bike.

But as far as handling, I would challenge any "out of the box" Jap bike to compete with an "out of the box" Duc. Now if you factor in looks, there is simply no comparison. Park a Ducati beside any jap bike and see which one draws more comments. My riding buddy has a brand new Aprilla RSV, and even when we park side-by-side, the Duc get's more attention. However, I do prefer the 748 and 998 styling over the 749 and 999 style.

Having owned both, they do different things. The Jap bike is like a girlfriend who is very responsible, supportive, & dependable. Decent looking, but not a knockout. While you may know in your head that she is right for you, something is simply lacking that makes you want to do whatever she wants, spend all your money on lavish gifts, go to the mall and like it, etc.

OTOH, many Italian bikes are like dating an extremely high-strung and unreliable, but heart-stoppingly gorgeous, double-jointed nymphomaniac supermodel. Frustrating and time-consuming, but when it is right, it is very right.

Bikes are toys, they are not just transportation. It is the entire experience.

Very well said! When I saw the post about Jap bikes being cheaper and better than Italian bikes I was thinking that the same would go for cars also but I ain't trading in my Ferrari for a Honda.

Yea...who would do that to BB? Think the 512 is one of the best looking F cars out threre. Perhaps get the TR out of my system and move on to one. Nice looking Ducati....have fun.

I'm betting that's a Koenig kit. I actually like the lower part, but the wing is a bit much.

Spoken like a true troll. I have had Jap sport bikes and switched to a 916. The Duck feels so much better, handles impeccably. The jap bikes were quick, but felt like flimsy junk.

It like trying to compare a Mitsobishi Evo or a Subaru that is quick, but really can't comapre to a Ferrari.

Ducks are great, the Jap crap is quick

since your in the market for a new girl, shouldn't you get a two seater or at least a side car?

It has passenger seat and footpegs, they are just very well incorporated on the 916. A true masterpiece of motorcycle design.

If anyone's interested, I am selling my MV Agusta F4. All street bikes must go since I am now a father. I alread sold both 998s, the 748, the Monster 900, and all I have left is the MV. I am keeping Gobert's Ducati Austin race bike so don't even ask - track bikes are exempt from the sell off.

Nice looking bevel drive. I had one, with raised ports, dry clutch, etc. Won a few races with that one. Rode for Wynne, of Sports Racing Motorcycles in England. Ended my career with a 888. I'll post pictures of it at Laguna when I can scan the picture in.
