After having found this site in my search into a F355 or 550, I've now become interested in an Gallardo and throwing that into the choices. This forum has been helpful but I had a couple questions i was hoping people could help with:
1 - is there a dedicated lamborghini forum comparable to FerrariChat?
2 - How do maintenance costs stack up against Ferrari's? Seems they are a little bit lower.
3 - Are there some sites with buying guide info and things to look out for when purchasing a Gallardo?
4 - Dumb question - what is the Coming Home feature?
5 -Is there a order guide for new G's that I could see what some of the possible options are?

I agree with Wayne..Zero maintenance costs.
I think the Coming Home Feature is the Built in remote located in the Visor.

"Lamborghini Troy" in Ohio have a link on their web site where you can build a Gallardo and look at a description of all the options with prices for each feature you choose. The 'Out of Range Paint' for about $5,000 lets you personalize your Gallardo with a color you choose. Each option you choose is shown as an entry in the build; including a running total of the cost. The Gallardo seems to be gaining more converts all the time. Good Luck!

Thanks for all the responses. I'll definitely give Roy a call or e-mail. Right now I'm still in a decision stage and not quite ready to make the purchase (waiting on a nice bonus to be paid this summer).

This all started when I found out about the bonus and realized that a 355 could be had for under $80k. That all led to this site and reading up more I included the 550 in the choices, as well as upping the target price :) Last week, I saw a 355 at a local dealer and decided that its just a bit dated. The 550 was then the leading choice until I drove by another dealership and saw an orange Gallardo out front. Now, I'm not one to get an orange, green, or yellow one, but WOW, they are beautiful cars and it seems like their reliability is definitely there. Current thinking is either black or the dark grey color.

Has anyone gone from a convertible to a Gallardo coupe? Currently I have a Boxster S as my fun car and I'm not sure if I'll keep it or trade it in towards a G. Dunno if I can give up having a convertible. The nice sunny days here in Seattle can be rare so having a convertible helps appreciate them all the more. 'Course, seeing as KBB puts it at maybe 20k trade-in, might not really be worth it.

Edit - Oh, and I did find out that the Coming Home feature is just like the Homelink built in transmitter for garage doors/gates/etc

By both do you mean the Gallardo Spyder and the Coupe? or the 550 and the Gallardo? I do still intend to drive a 550 and the Gallardo when I'm closer to purchase time so that I really know which one feels right for me. But the Gallardo Spyder isn't really a consideration, mostly due to the pricing on it. Original target was under 100k, kinda blown that now but still trying to keep it 'reasonable' :)

if you do some searches on this and the lambo power forum, you will find a number of things to look out for if you are going to get a pre-owned car, especially the first year, 2004. the early cars had weak clutches that, in some cases, need to be replaced after a few thousand miles. it was more than just abusive drivers. Lambo changed out the clutch 3 times. the new '06 clutches are supposed to be pretty solid.

there were other problems related to the engine faulting out if made wet during car washes, the clear bonnet shattering if one of the screws got loose, and some intermittent stalling at low speed issues. of course, any first year car will have all sorts of problems. there are plenty of '04 owners who've had no problems, so it depends on the luck of your draw.

Thanks for the tips. I had done some searching and seen issues with the clutch but didn't know of the other issues there. As it stands, it's going to be September or so before I probably buy, if not later. Thats about the end of summer here in Seattle :) I'm thinking I'll just wait till Jan or so and maybe go for an 05 or even a higher mileage 06.

i would go for the '06. i originally had an '04 which had lots of problems, but my '06 is great. plus, the difference in sound from the exhaust alone in the '06, and the lift system for the front wheels is worth the price of admission. ;) good luck with the purchase!

Yes there is another site it is called www.**********.com

Really Zero Maintenance costs. Every 7,500 fluid change for around $400-600USD and you are good to go.

Do NOT buy a early model 2004. Make sure it was a late model. They had clutch and motor issues in the first run of cars.

Coming home is really just built in garage door openers or gate openers?

Not sure on the option list but like they all say call Roy and Kevin at Cats Exotics and they can answer all questions and find you the car you are looking for. The Gallardo does not have nearly the luggage room of a 550 but twice the car :)

Sure, I LOVE the Gallardo as well. The 550's are (my guess only), approaching a bottom of their market. A nice one can be had for right around 100k. The Gallardo will be MUCH more. I personally haven't yet seen one I'd consider "nice" for under 135k. That'd allow you to own the 550 and go buy a decent daily driver as well. Then again if you're going to spend 135k there would be other cars to consider now, 575, 360, the list goes on and on.
Not trying to talk anyone out of the Gallardo, but there is a big price difference.

Originally I was capping it at 100k and had narrowed it down to either a 355 or a 550. After seeing a Gallardo I convinced myself to bump it up to a 150k cap thinking I could get a decent 05 in under that (exclusive of tax and maintenance and all). Now with the 150 limit I am also considering a 575 or even a 360 spyder. Looks like I'll have a couple test drives to go take :) Nice thing about the Gallardo, other than its incredible looks, power, and AWD though is its maintenance costs. How does depreciation compare with a Ferrari?

'Course, a decent condition 550 + upgrading my Boxster S to the new 300hp ones along with Euro delivery is a tempting option as well. Ahh, decisions decisions.
