The 1989 and maybe late 1988s had the "bowed out" style of wheels. All earlier 328s had the "dished-in" style.

On the 1988.5 and 1989 328's there were suspension changes that changed the offset of the wheel. These changes also came at the same time as ABS brakes, but not neccessarily convex (bowed out) on all ABS cars or concave (bowed in ) on all non-ABS cars.

There are a few cars with the concave wheels that have ABS, but most don't. And there are a few with the convex wheels that do not have ABS, though most do.

It is the changes to the hub for the suspension that drove the new wheels. There may even be a few cars with the convex wheels, but not the new suspension, as some believe the factory used up its supply of older concave wheels since it was switching to the new convex wheels. Very important information when looking at aftermarket wheels.

The earlier ABS cars had the 'convex' rims. Earlier non ABS cars had better looking concave rims....
