Ever see the film "The Cannonball Run" with Burt Reynolds (ugghh!). There's a black Countach 5000QV with a front spoiler in the opening sequence.

 

Yes, you could order a Countach with an optional front wing.

As I recall, this front wing was pricey, about $5,000 which at the time, could almost buy you a Honda Civic.

 

Im no expert, but by the time the 25th anniversary car came out (1989?) front wings were not offered. Big azz driving lights and front wing on this particular car is someone's own creative work, not Lambo's.

 

Front wings were to get around bumper height requirements. In fact the wing in the earlier cars needed to be removed to be able to open the hood. Looking at the pic I would say that this is the case as the vehicle is still fitted with the slim Euro bumper. I can't comment on the foglights though. Looks terrible.

 

That is correct. You couldn't get one on an anniversary car, but that appears to be the correct front wing for a Countach.

Checked some old pics. The original front wing was not as long as that one, or as tall.

When I was in highschool, there was a white 81 C/T with a front wing running around west Ft. Woth. The car was beat up really bad, the owner had wrecked it a couple of times & didn't get it tuned properly. The last time I saw it was back in 1994 parked in front of 7-Eleven on old Camp Bowie left for dead. I think t retired to a ranch somewhere in East texas waiting for a massive and long overdue restoration.

If I remember correctly, the Countach's front end has a tendency to lift at high speed, thus the wings were created as a factory option. Not sure if that was still the case with the 25th anniversary edition tho.

didn't have enough pizz-azz, that's Italian for "bling" I suppose.

 

They do some pretty strange stuff to cars over there.. some good, some really really bad.

I don't believe that the original Countach front wing spanned the entire width of the front end.. I remember a poster I had growing up that had it ending at the beginning of the headlights (obviously-- that's the need for the lights on this wing).

BTW, my 89 Anniversary sans front wing DOESN'T lift its front end at high speed, on corners or on changes in the road surface.

 

Id rather buy that wing

 

I don't dislike it ... but it does fit the Countach spirit perfectly! 80s excess, baby!
