Mine was. A 308. I did buy another, but I have always had a 360 drop-top at the top of the list. It's strange with me because my mindset said 'start and work up'. I just bought a 348ts and could have popped for a pre-owned 360 DT, but I could not justify it. I guess I am 'sticking the needle in a little at a time'!

i don't know if i would call my 308 a stepping stone. it certainly opened up the desire for a 12 cyl. car, or a modern ferrari, but i felt the 308 was an experience unto itself, not just something to whet my appetite while i gathered money or experienced ferrari ownership/maintenance firsthand. i bought a TR as a direct result of my 308 ownership, but i won't be selling my 308. they are two different cars, and for me, i really enjoying owning these two beauties.

    Funny, a 360 was my stepping stone to a 308 (and a Daytona). :)

Actually, I consider the various Loti, TVR, Spridgets, Alfas, Fiats, and a few other etceterini, to be the stepping stones to what I own now.

    Nope.

    The Dinos a keeper.

Maybe add another car, someday when all the kids are out of college, but....

By then 360's should be $75K, or less. :D

Not so much a stepping stone but rather a test car. I really did not aspire to buying as good of a car as I ended up getting when I started my search. I was thinking 'just buy the cheapest Ferrari out there' but ended up getting a car I really enjoy.

No. All my earlier cars were stepping stones to my Ferrari (and the Porsche I sold last year was more expensive than my 328.)

The 308/328 GTS is exactly what I've wanted for the last 20 years, in the exact color that I wanted -- and I'm not really in lust with the newer Ferrari's.

I could see keeping the 328 and adding a 575 someday, finances permitting, but when I walk out to the garage now I can't think of another car that would make me any happier.

My first was a 308 QV. A year later I stepped up to a 328. A year after that I stepped "up" to a 348, but after a short while decided it was actually a step backwards, so I added a 308 QV GTB to it, then sold the 348. 4.5 years ago I bought a 328 GTB which I still have and expect to keep until I am dead. Last year added a new 430 to the garage which is fantastic but has not yet earned "keeper" status. I expect more will come and go, but the 328 will remain. So, the 308 was a stepping stone, but calling 308's or 328's "starter" Ferraris is not really fair. They are great in their own right.

my first ferrari is a 348 spider - and maybe it´s a first step to a small collection. next has to be a classic and then maybe a 360/430 spider, when my 348 is going to get retired for use in club-events.
but - i will keep my spider ! it has got everything i expected from a ferrari !

Im going backwards and sideways, my first Ferrari was a 575. If I get the commisions I promised this year, I would definitely consider a AMV8 or even another H2. GT cars and SUVs for me in the Midwest. If it was more tropical, perhaps something else.

My exact sentiment. In fact, I could have bought a newer Ferrari but they just did not turn my blood like the 308 does.

It seems that is the beauty of Ferraris. There is no real stepping stone. Many have 308s and 328s and consider them beautiful, and they really are. They are even more exquisite than a 360 IMHO. I don't think any Ferrari is a "stepping stone" to another, perhaps some other car, but no Ferrari.

The ironic part about this post, is I believe it is to point out the affordability of the Ferrari client, and so would mean getting a 308 before a 360. But the problem is, people fall in LOVE with the 308!
