In the micro fiber vs towel thread at http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78840 Gabe posted a link to a water filter that attaches to your hose and can be found at http://www.pwgazette.com/gardenhosefilters.htm I bought one, tried it and was pleased with the results. I have a black 512TR which is a pain to wash and live in a hot climate with lots of minerals in the water.

I tried it on a warm day, but not a hot one, so I was not faced with the short drying time I usually run into where spots develop sooner than you can wipe them off. Because of the minerals in my water, it normally spots if you don't get the water off quickly. When I used the filter device the small water drops that I allowed to dry on the car did not appear to leave a spot. I did not do an extended test and it was not in the burning heat, but for now it seems that this device will allow me to do a more relaxed car wash instead of having to do a speed wash and blow the water off with a blower as soon as possible. The device appears to be well made and comes with a bracket so that you can mount it on a wall if you have the space to do so. I would recommend the device based on the results that I experienced as well as the fact that the filter device didn't cost too much. Although your mileage may vary, it is something to think about if you wash your car using mineral rich water. (you should note that they may have similar filters at Lowes, but I don't know what type of filter you would use with them. )

The Mr. Clean Car Wash system also has a similar filter. I've used it, and it works well.

Lloyd: Do you experience a drop in water pressure? Everyone should own a black car once. I've owned two...it took me longer to figure out how hard it is to make them look so good:)

I have a reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink. Even though my water quality is excellent, I'm not thrilled with the amount of chlorine that the water district injects. The sediment filter that you would use for the garden hose system is cheap...under $10 and even less if you shop wisely. Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. can fix you up. Great idea for folks with really hard water.

I have this as well and am very pleased with it. Makes washing the car much less of a pain in the *ss. I almost want to go wash it every weekend knowing it wont be so much of a pain and it'll look good with less than half the effort.

I have pretty good water pressure so it was difficult to notice, but my impression is that it does slightly reduce water pressure.

I don't know which is worse the black TR or the early black Viper I owned that I would try to wash with the top off because putting on the top and side curtains was as big a pain as washing the car iteself. Unfortunately, there are certain cars that I love in black and therefore must suffer the curse of the black car.

I have the water softner installed in my home and it works wonders, save alot of soap washing a car and the dishes, and leaves your skin nice and smooth after a shower.

I bought the Mr Clean kit but have not tried it yet on my black Ferrari. Let you know soon. Mostly I try to eradicate every drop of H2O on the surface w/ synthetic towels from Griot's.

Just a comment on what I did when we built a new house a few years back. I plumbed in a warm water, soft water using potasium instead of salt, facet to the garage side of the house. Seems to work fine on my black BMW. Have not found a reason to add a filter. Regards, Vern

Griot's Garage sells an inline water filter that attaches between the hose bib and your hose. Have not tried it but you may want to check it out

No, I spared my partner's car. He just got it back from the paint shop after someone tried to break into it. The timing just wasn't right.
