The big water hose buried under the Inlet Manifold burst during my lunch hour today. Are there any suggestions on replacing it without removing everything above? It is the one closest to the engine block. Can it be removed and replaced working from the right side or is it necessary to remove the inlet manifold, etc.

I managed to get the car to a shop that has done some Ferrari work for owners in the area. I replaced the Water Pump and the Voltage Regulator in the Alternator over the weekend. My '83 Mondial QV was running well even in the 90-degree weather with the A/C on. Temperature never much above 195F; so I guess the hose was just due for replacement.

I had mine replaced earlier this year (before it broke...). The tech said he had to remove the manifold to get to it.

It was a 1 hour job plus a $9 hose. Very common for these to deteriorate - they get a lot of heat there.

Wow, anyone that will do that job for one hour of labor can do it for me too! I can't imagine how it's a one hour job.

I went in from the wheel well and pulled the water pump to do it. It looked like the pump was going to have to come out to replace the hose whether or not I pulled the plenum. As it turns out you don't need to pull the plenum....you can do it with just the water pump removal. I would say it took me more like 4 hours.

It might have taken you 4 hours and some fancy Ferrari tech did it in an hour......
Big deal, let's see them do it in under 4 hours but do it like most of us do.... down a couple of six packs while they're at it.

Mine took me all of 15 minutes to replace. You guys are wimps!

To be fair, perhaps I should mention that I don't have a plennum, and that the carbs were off anyway ... seemed like a good time for a spot of preventative maintenance.

Yeah that one is nothing. Maybe it is a carb car thing :). I must admit that one seems notorious for leaking or other trouble.

On a carb car while you can do a lot with that hose without removing anything you are probably a lot better off removing all the intake pieces in the way first.

Plus, for me once I had a gander at that hose then I started questioning all the others of the same vintage.

just had mine done last week. the fitting had corroded away and had to be drilled out, tapped and a new brass nipple inserted. four hours. can't imagine him only charging you 1 hr. that's a great deal if he did a good job.
