Has anyone had problems with water pump seals leaking?
Sorry kevin, couldn't resist, But..... No, in nearly 50 years since production, not one has ever leaked. !! What kind of question is that?? To try to help you, there has been a few improvements in seal design and manufacture, but they don't last forever.
common problem currently, some seals the vendors sell do not work, unsure which vendors. Springs too can be too weak (that are being distributed in the kits)
I changed mine last year. It had a strange behavior since I bought the car. It would drip a little in the garage after I ran the car for a short time, but not if I ran it for more than a few miles. Eventually it started dripping all the time and I took it apart. I got the new seal from Partsource. The spring tension was about the same as the one I removed. It seemed like a nice qulality part. Hasn't been a problem since I changed it. Here's a useful link if you are going to do it yourself. http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/WaterPumpRebuild.htm You need to hone down the sealing surface that goes on the impeller and I did mine exactly this way. Thanks to Kerry for writing it up. Dave Fabiszak
Sorry Phillip, couldn't resist, but ..... In less than 50 years production not one has EVER leaked! You have no idea! It appears you are wrong, again! Please don't try and help me, unless you know what you are talking about.
One quick tip on these seals during their replacement: do not touch the surface of the carbon seal during installation as the oil from your skin could prevent the surfaces from lapping together and a small drip could develop. Jim Riff
As dfab mentioned, I replaced the seal in my 330 last year. I bought my seal from Dennis McCann and it hasn't leaked a drop since. Have about 3k miles on it now. Regards, Kerry PS, David, I'm glad someone gets useful information from my Ferrari online musings.
