Anyone get up to the Glen this weekend for the FCA track weekend? The wife and I went up for an afternoon to visit our neighbor/friend with the 355 Spider that sustained damage Friday afternoon after hitting a wall (ouch). To say there were some AWESOME cars up there is an understatement of great proportions:

    4 (count them, 1 3 2 4!) 333 SPs
    2 (maybe 3) Porsche 962s
    1 MC12 (parked)
Hordes of 360s, Challenge cars, and CS's.
Multiple 355 and 348 Challenge cars.
    1 Vanquish
    1 Black 430
1 308 turned 288 GTO (very well done)
    Pantera's, Porsche's (quite a few GT3s), BMW's

I was high off race fuel for a few hours which was fantastic! I have pics, but haven't converted them from RAW yet and I'll get on that ASAP. Oh, Lamborghini of Bergen County was there with a fantastic looking Gallardo and the above-mentioned MC12 which had a few miles on it (brake dust was all over the front wheels). Aside from the fact that my neighbor hit a wall, the weekend was nice. Anyone else there?

I know I know .. "This thread is worthless without pics" .. I'll work on it.

    Oh, some notes:

The 333SP's ... can anyone tell me, are the cams gear driven and if they are, is that the predominant sound you hear when blipping the throttle in neutral? I had a gear-driven VFR for 2 years and the car sounds amazingly similar ... I believe it was the gear whine that really made it that way.

Best sounding car of the weekend ....... the Vanquish. Was at the local drug store picking up some water for the trip home and listened to the Aston pilot get on it leaving a stop-light. Absolutely amazing sound. Couldn't describe it if my life depended on it.

Sorry about your friends car but it didn't look all that awful, expensive none the less. I think this time there was the least amount of damage I've ever seen up there.

I counted 3 - 333SPs. Steve Cox, Kurt Shultz and Vince Deleo (apologies for spelling errors). Did I miss one? I was out in Blue so none of them were running with me, thank God. There were 2 big Porsche 962s that I saw.

I ran with a grey GT3 all weekend and that was fun. He was eventually faster than me. Oh well.

Boy, I tried (5 times!) to get Frank to do a couple of demonstration laps in his MC12 but no luck. I thought a Maserati only race cars session would entice him, nope.

The car sounds like nothing just running around the parking lot.

I'm pretty sure the cams are belt driven. What you probably heard was the drive train. 333's have dog ring gear boxes with straight cut gears. They give a gear drive like whine. They also facilitate clutchless shifting which is cool. If I remember correctly they are sequential as well.

The weekend was awesome! Not only were there a lot of great cars, but also the weather was absolutely perfect. The track was in great condition, and none of the seasons was so crowded that you couldn't get plenty of clear track to run. Bob's yellow Maz-car was a blast to watch out there with the mix of cars in his group. That car is super-quick! I was running in the white group with my '84 Mondial, which worked out well. The car handled superbly with the Kumho's on and the Portfield racing pads, but it just doesn't have the HP to run with the big boys. But it was great getting a ton of track time and plenty of open running.

Thanks for posting the pics, guys. I had brought the camera along, but just couldn't get motivated to take any. It's great to see the pics, but it was so much better to see the cars in person.

Sorry but that's all I had time to take and they were all taken from my garage spot. It's amazing how easily a 1 hour break between sessions vanishes. I forgot my in-car video camera. Just as well as I had plenty to do just dealing with the car issues and ahem, "lectures" in the class room.

The weather was in a word, spectacular.
