Kobe's skillful shot may have pulled it out, but that doesn't change the fact that the Pistons were ahead with only 2.1 secs to play. They were lucky to have an opportunity to make a shot.

The Pistons are still in this thing, and the Lakers know it.

They weren't lucky to make the shot - It was a bad play by the coaching & the players. They should have fouled Shaq when he got the inbound.....

The Lakers don't do so well by luck - They are just better then their opponnents - Better coaching, better players.

    Vegas Baby, VEGAS! :)

    GAME 2:

What a nail biter last night. I can't believe they didn't foul Kobe before he got that shot off - they had the game wrapped up. Oh well, it's now a new series once again.

All this reminds me of Lakers V Sixers from 2001. I really wish Detroit wins. Won't be able to stand one more year of all the guys in LA braging on and on until next season.

I made the mistake of waking my fiancee up when the Pistons were up by 6 with under a minute to go and telling her that I thought the Pistons were going to win. It was a tough loss for the Pistons but I think they are still in pretty good shape. Kobe isn't the best 3 point shooter but he came through. I say whoever wins the next game will win the series. The Pistons will probably have an answer for Luke Walton next game. Okur played horribly but that is probably due to the fact that he hasn't been getting much game time. The keys to a game 3 victory for the Pistons.

    1. Continue scoring from Chauncey
    2. Rip shoots a little better from the field
    3. Rasheed stays out of foul trouble in the first half
    4. Elden Campbell, Okur, Lindsey come off the bench and play well
    5. Lastly, Corliss makes his layups

If they do the above they will be able to win.

How many threads and how many posts on how many fora would it take to document all of the sports teams that ALMOST won because they were ahead with seconds to play or one out away or whatever.

    Fact is...THEY ALL LOST!

I dont understand how someone can term the "opportunity to have a shot" as luck.. The fact that Kobe wasn't fouled wasn't exactly LUCK.. it was a MISTAKE by the Pistons which is WHY they lost, there is no element of luck involved at all, Pistons messed up, Lakers didn't, no luck element at all

There is a reason Phil Jackson has won so many rings. In addition to great players, the man can COACH. Brown made a mistake.

This is not the first time the Pistons have had a game won and let the opponent come back to win it, has happened many times this year, but last night was THE most crushing. I felt sick. I have never experienced such a state of ectasy to agony in so short a time. How a team can lose a game being up six with .47 seconds to go is beyond me. They lack that "go for the jugular" instinct that the more experienced teams seem to have. The shot by Kobe didn't save L.A. the game - I expect that from him - it was the useless foul on Shaq which put L.A within three and the mistakes to follow. Ignorant.

That being said, consider yourselves lucky for coming to Detroit tied 1-1. At least the nation is taking us more seriously now. You guys seem awfully excited about winning a game that had a "foregone conclusion." :)

I don't think anything is a forgone conclusion in life - they still play the games for a reason: To see who gets the W and who gets the L. But I will say that any team that can score 6 points in under a minute on the best defensive team in the league is onto something. Don't you see that when it comes down to it and both teams are trying their hardest the lakers almost always are able to will themselves into the lead?
The only problem they have is getting into a lazy pace and not being able to pull out of it in time (generally one player will have to accelerate his gameplay and hope the rest can keep the beat). When the lakers come out of the blocks strong and play 48 minutes reguardless of score, they are unbeatable in the world today.
That said, the Pistons can probably pick up another game or two in MI and really put the pressure on the overdogs at home. I give them a good 20% of taking the series.

You missed my point completely. Yes, they lost, but they were good enough to be in the lead with 2.1 seconds to go. Lakers fans seem to think that, because one player made an exceptional shot late in the second game that the series is over. It isn't. The Pistons have the ability to give the Lakers a run for their money. Tonight will tell.

Point taken. I wasn't specifically referring to that Laker game, however all teams that could have won (or even should have) but didn't.

The Palace was rocking tonight! Not as deafening as game 7 vs. Nets, but close. DEE-TROIT BASKETBALL!!!!

I just want to apologize to all you Lakers fans out there. I guess those drive-bys along the Townsend at 4:00am must have really disturbed the sleep of your prima donnas. Honest, I didn't realize the Stradale was that loud.

Guess what I'll be doing Saturday night. :)

I gotta give it to the pistons and their fans. Not bad at all. The pistons have now outplayed the lakers in all 3 games of the series, but when it gets to game 6 or 7, I still have to pick the team with superior experience, size, talent, and homecourt in those last two games.

Rasheed got into early foul trouble again. But it didn't matter.

    Pistons win!!!!!!

Game 4 is HUGE Though. If the Lakers win they are right back in the series.

My list in post #19 also pretty much worked out:

    1. Hack a Shaq: not needed (but he was held to 14)
    2. Hamilton: 31 points
    3. Malone: held to 5 points
    4. Peyton vs. Billups: 6 points to 19
    5. Fisher: only played 16 minutes
    6. Bryant: no Colorado trip = 11 points :)

Now the big thing we have to worry about is hoping that Sports Illustrated won't put the Pistons on the cover before the series end. :)

The Lakers have completely underestimated this team:

They weren't ready for their tough defense.

Malone being out isn't helping matters.

No one besides Shaq and Kobe has done anything. I can't remember the last time a team in the finals was so lopsided. Jordan and Pippen's teammates were doing better than these 10 other Lakers. So much for the "Luuuuuke" miracle kid in game 3.

They've been outplayed in 10 out of the first 12 quarters. Does Detroit just fall apart now and go away?

Unfortunately, I see Detroit taking it in 6.
