Hey, there was a group of rockers from L.A. that were out at the Townsend in Birmingham supporting the Lakers. I took a picture of them for all you Lakers fans out there.
It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Oh wait, Aretha Franklin is singing the national anthem on Tuesday. Sorry L.A. fans. You got Sheed on.
Being hearing-impaired since birth, I read lips very well - Couldn't help but notice: After Kobe nearly got beaten to death by three thugs (with yet another non-call) then thugs, I mean, Pistons immediately got a foul because somebody on the Lakers dared step within 5 yards of a th-, Piston with the ball; Camera briefly went to Phil - I read Phil's lips, he said, "I quit." No small wonder - Pistons had 8 players on the floor Image Unavailable, Please Login
One more victory to go... I don't care if Detroit never wins a single game ever again... just win one from the next three games!
Beautiful game last night, absolutely text book. It'll all be over tomorrow night, which will be a good thing, so I can start getting to bed at my normal time.
Sorry, Dan, but you're going to have to work late filling all those Ferrari orders for the new NBA champs!
The Pistons may be getting more calls then the Lakers but that is probably due to the fact that they are hustling more than the Lakers. The Lakers should give the ball to Shaq at least one time on each possesion and let him either win or lose the game. Kobe was way too wild last night and Shaq was in a zone. Shaq was moving with the ball like a guard at times last night. If even one other Laker played as hard as Shaq last night maybe the Lakers would have had a chance to win. Don't blame the refs though. Why would the NBA want the Pistons to win?
I can think of a few reasons why they would want the Pistons to win and the Lakers to lose. They range from the practical to the almost unbelievable. 1) Bring back the eastern conference fans since the whole right half of map has been considered 2nd tier compared to the west (Lakers, Spurs, Wolves). 2) Make the series interesting. It would have been a lot revenue lost if the lakers came out and won 2 straight. NOBODY would tune in. (television ratings have been very good this year) 3) Respond to the biggest critique of basketball ever - that it is an individual sport dressed up as a team game. 4) Keep kobe away from the ring ceremony this year just in case his verdict comes back guilty. 5) Punish Kobe for banging a white girl even if he didn't rape her. Do I think someone is manipulating the series from behind the scenes? I dunno, but I have thought about it when trying to understand the foul shot descrepencies between the two teams (132 Pistons free throws vs 78 for LA in the 4 games). The Lakers have not been able to play agressively because every time they get in the Pistons faces they get called for a foul. And I leave you with this from a Detroit paper: When asked before the game how the Pistons had been able to hold down Kobe Bryants shot attempts in Game 3, Brown said, dryly, We foul. We fouled him before he shot the ball. If youre allowed to slap arms and put bodies on people, I mean, how are you going to get shots?
when teams fall apart, they get fustrated, when that happens they foul, when teams are hitting shots and winning they dont foul, its always the losing team that complains about the fouls, and didnt the bulls complain about fouls too. maybe its phil and his antics, I might be blind but I didnt see that many wrong calls, but you allways see the ones that your team gets and never the other. Go pistons john
WITHOUT A DOUBT, the best team won!!! I wish they had done it in 4 games to REALLY humiliate the "mighty Lakers"! GO PISTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Larry Brown finally has a ring on his finger. What a great coach. He kept the motivation and desire to win for 22 years. This is revenge for 2001 when his Sixers lost to Jackson's Lakers. Karl Malone just stuck his foot in his mounth and walked of the court. A life time loser. I would have ad more respect for him if he had finished with Utah. he became greedy... moved to the Lakers to have a ring around his finger. But he left the court looking like a man that just saw a ghost. But the day belonged to the Pistons. What an amazing game. I don't think detroit is sleeping tonight!!! PS: By winning the NBA title, Brown becomes the only head coach to win an NCAA title and NBA title.
Can't wait to see the "Governator" donning a Pistons jersey and guzzling down some Vernors with his pasty and chocolate covered cherries. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, baby!!!
I'm actually relieved it's all over. I have not missed a Pistons game all year, and lately it has been consuming my life! It must suck to be a Laker's fan tonight. But I have to thank their team for taking out the Spurs - they never would have laid down like this.
Though I live in L.A., I'm not a Lakers fan - I just know biased officiating when I see it. Detroit Pistons - 2003-04 NBA Champs* *asterisk for wink, wink, nudge, nudge foul fiasco
That's rich. Bennett Salvatore showing bias towards the Pistons? So you're an expert on officiating now? Oh, I forgot - you're an expert on everything. Thank god for Google, huh?
You're right about one thing - I am a Genius Googaloid: Game 1_|FTM|FTA| PF | TECH Lakers__| 14 | 18 | 25 | 0 Cheaters| 21 | 30 | 17 | 0 (Cheaters 87, Lakers 75) Game 2 Lakers__| 17 | 25 | 27 | 0 (Lakers 99, Cheaters 91) Cheaters| 21 | 31 | 23 | 1 Game 3 Lakers__| 08 | 13 | 28 | 0 Cheaters| 21 | 30 | 16 | 0 (Cheaters 88, Lakers 68) Game 4 Lakers__| 11 | 22 | 35 | 3 Cheaters| 28 | 41 | 20 | 1 (Cheaters 88, Lakers 80) Game 5 Lakers__| 21 | 33 | 27 | 2 Cheaters| 28 | 39 | 27 | 1 (Cheaters 100, Lakers 87) Summary: Cheaters went to the line more often, while Lakers had to do contend with inbounds passes*, whereupon they were immediately fouled by aforementioned Cheaters, yet Officials who got bribed with cars and trucks from the Motor City didn't call penalties on Cheaters. *passes - For example, before I turned game #5 off in the middle of 2nd period - due to disgust with the state of officiating today - Lakers had 7 inbounds passes, whereas Cheaters had 2. Mind you, these were on the calls that were made against Cheaters. As you can see, Cheaters were called for an equal amount (27), though in actuality, as in all 4 of the other games, they actually committed double the amount of infractions they were called for. There are some important distinctions to be made on non-calls of fouls resulting in "turnovers." You see, When a Laker is robbed of the opportunity to shoot - he's down 2 points. Then with the "turnover" - the Cheaters are up 2 points. You have to realize, that according to wax's slide rule of fair play, this is a 4 point difference. Therefore, the Cheaters and their co-horts, the "Officials" will get rings with fake diamonds.
