Heads up to the US. Great soccer playing tonight. Italy is a very difficult team, and the US held the spirit all the way and dominated the game. Very impressing for a country who does not fancy soccer that much :)

Just wanted to congratulate the US for a great game. Italy is a better team on the paper, but tonight you showed something else :)

They did great I think, but they were pretty sloppy with all the fouls compaired to Italy. But I love the USA and I think they did amazing with one less guy than the italians. GO USA!

Could have easily won if we weren't robbed of two players.

We had control, momemtum, and a man up. No question we had the upper hand.

Yea....I watched the game. It was a matter of time after tossing de Rossi, even if they hadn't of knocked one in for us. Just playing with 8 on the field makes any organized attack almost impossible.

blah blah blah. Did you see what they were trying to do? They were trying to take the italians out at the ankles. Look at them. Look at the calls. Lunging? Hello!!!!

Have you watched any other games in the cup....tackles like that every game. In both tackles they got ball as well....

    Do you even play?

I've been watching the games. Mainly the good ones, so I have no idea why I watched the USA today...

Clearly you havn't really been watching as every other team in the world has gotten away with those same tackles. Yes, the US was lucky to come out with a draw but had be not been robbed of two players on two extremely questionable calls it would have been an entirely different game. Regardless, the main storyline was the referee...I would be very suprised if he is seen again in this cup, or any other for that matter.

maybe I'm bias because I'm a strong support for the German team, and I feel that the US shouldn't even be there. The US got called on them, other teams haven't so what? The refs make their decisions. Maybe he would have made the same calls at other games. Not a caring bone in my body. You feel the ref made a mistake, I feel that if he thinks something was wrong and he made the right move.

The US is the #1 team in CONCAFA, as evidenced by the last 10 years of matches against other teams. In all likelihood, the US is the 3rd best team in the hemisphere. Yet you think they shouldn't even be there? Pathetic.

What's hilarious is the overnight ratings in S. Cal. of the soccer game are double that of the NBA game 4 played the other night.

Shouldn't be there!? The US won their qualifying group and whats more they tied Italy, who have been picked to win the entire cup, playing a man down. No one would have thought that even a remote possibility.

Yes, the refs do make their decisions but that doesn't make them right. Those were two rediculous red cards that probably cost the US three points and the opportunity to control their own fate instead of rely on an inconsistant Italian team to beat the Czechs.

Hilarious? I call it sad. Not because I like the NBA, but because the huge ratings success was due to the 11 million illegal Mexicans sucking on SoCal's collective tit.

Wait...did I say that out loud?

Or the Czechs & Italians can tie and the US needs to be Ghana with a 5 goal difference (highly unlikely).

both reds were deserved. mastroeni came in late, from the side, with both legs, cleats up, and went straight into the ankle. there was no play for the ball at all. thats a textbook red card.

pope was playing like a clown all game, never communicating with the rest of the defense (e.g. thinking they were playing an offside trap on the free kick leading to italy's goal while everyone else kept marking). he got an early yellow card for a late, aggressive slide tackle from behind. his second yellow was for the exact same sort of attack. had he not had a yellow card, he would have gotten one anyways for that tackle. that sort of tackle has been getting a yellow card all tourney. he didn't need to get a warning or anything of that sort, THE FIRST YELLOW CARD WAS HIS WARNING.

that being said, the US earned its stripes this game. psychologically, going from 1 up to 1 down in 10 minutes is a huge psychological blow that many teams would not have been able to come back from. the fact is that the US not only held italy to a draw, but it attacked HARD and had its chances (2 on 2 break being led by landon to mcbride who then kicked it into the parking lot...). THIS was the US team that had so much hype...not that garbage team that showed up to play the czechs.
