Today is the day. We'll see just what new features will be in the latest iPhone. Speculations: - subsidized pricing 99-250 price range - G3 - GPS - toaster, but no bread crumb tray Watch it here, with Steve's keynote at 10am PST. http://www.macrumorslive.com/
Gotta love this: 10:44 am Next -- Pangea Software. They have ported 2 games to the iPhone. The first game is Enigmo, which is a physics-based game. Makes advanced use of the touch controls as well as the CPU. The second game is Cro-Mag Rally, which is a 3D racing game -- the iPhone itself is the steering wheel. Very cool
+1 "Steve da man!..... $199 for the 8GB version. Release July 11th, which just happens to be 2 days after my birthday.....
Why is wireless data is still edge? Wireless data Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
I *suspect* (I can't get to the store right now) someone screwed up - Steve demo'd it on 3G, so it's definitely there..... 11:37 am Now demoing an email download. The email attachment took 5 seconds to download on 3G and 18 seconds on EDGE. 3 seconds on WiFi. Incidentally, don't you love the way he does his demos "live"? I remember Bill Gates trying that once - He gave up after it blue screened for the second time Cheers, Ian
I am trying to decide if I should see my regular 8GB iPhone, I would like the GPS and I need some more space. What is everyone thinking that has the current iPhone?
No I believe that HSDPA is only in Europe right now. Its not in the US Thats why the HTC Diamond Touch is such a good phone in Europe but kinda pointless here because it has HSDPA but not 3G
How much do you think you could "see" it for? (Sorry!)..... I suspect they're pretty much worthless as of now - Maybe $30-$50? (Particularly as you'll want to hang on to the SIM card.) Personally, I'm not sure - I'm fortunate in that I spend the majority of my time within range of wi-fi which remains the fastest option. GPS is "nice" but the existing "triangulation" method it uses (along with real time traffic) works for me. OTOH, I *love* new toys - I'm not about to line up for the thing (didn't do that on the first version either) but have a feeling there's one in my future..... It'll be interesting to see what old iPhones do sell for. Cheers, Ian
Jay Leno took a jab at Apple last night. He joked that 10 minutes into Job's presentation, he stopped and said that the phone he was showing is now 10 minutes old, the next generation is now available making the phone in the first 10 minutes obsolete.
I am more interested in the Loopt feature, and similar GPS tracking technologies that lets you know if any friends/contacts are close-by. I think that is one of the coolest features. On another note, what does everything think this will do for the other smartphone manufacturers, especially Blackberry? It seems as if Apple addressed most of the enterprise concerns. I'm especially excited for Cisco VPN capability.
+1 Very cool. But, for me it doesn't justify the upgrade. I would sell my Blackberry stock if I owned any
Yes it does! [See: http://www.swirlyspace.com/iphone/apps/mms/ ] Admittedly, it's a third party app. Hopefully it'll be available via the iPhone store as "officially supported" pretty soon. Cheers, Ian
