Well, a Conservative Minority. IMO : we just wasted 250 m...why? because we are going ot do this again real soon. So much for change. Harper wont get anything done, and back we go. My question is why is Ontario still all red ? It would have been nice to see a majority, guess its just not in the cards. I cant help but think that another 250M could have done some good around this country.
Looks like people really did have another choice. I am amazed at how we reward politicans that lie and steal. At least if Paul Martin would have fired at least one guy from some of these scandals. If only...
Has it really been that long since November 11? Way, way WAY too many people died for your right to go out and cast a ballot for it to ever be a waste. Yes, the politicians can be full of hot air, yes the pollsters are annoying, and yes, maybe the political landscape doesn't change much, but THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A WASTE OF AN ELECTION!!! Neil
I do acknowledge the freedoms we have in choosing our leader, that other countries don't have, but it is a waste of an election when they'll only say something that'll get them more votes and not honestly doing something for the people, or when they'll promise the moon and deliver nothing either because they're pocketing it for themselves, or they're shot down by another party because they don't like the way the other guys are playing... Is this new government going to be any different than the others? I voted today, but it's not for ANYONE I WANTED in there, I chose the lesser of all the evils. I don't like/trust any of the leaders and all of the party platforms had some issues I agreed with and also strongly disagreed with. Nobody in this campaign represented totally my feelings/beliefs/opinions. Sorry for being so cynical, but this is just the way I feel.
Normally I would agree with you. In this case though, very little will get done for the people of Canada. Since everything will evolve around a partisan backdoor deal we will face the polls again and continue to spend money that will more than likely not really help any of us. Imagine, how many of the homeless and uneducated kids 500M would actually help. If only all these guys/gals and parties got there act straight.
The liberals were approaching Russian level corruption and nepotism. 12 years in absolute power makes one very fat and very lazy.
At least (and thank Heaven) the BQ didn't gain - neither in seats nor in % of votes....that may be a sign that we have a few more years as ONE country... We now have what you could call some form of a "balance of power", und unless Mr. Harper behaves like a real Klutz (i.e. like one of his predecessors), this may actually result in more democratic Government (i.e. more representative of the people) than a "runaway" majority. Will the CONS cut the GST as promised? Possibly, but they will just take it out of your other pocket. I have never seen anyone - let alone a country - that spends less as time progresses...
...like a $ 10 tax rebate for every citizen? Or a free Enzo for 250 of the most deserving Canadians? It's all relative....
I was really hoping that we'd get a majority,.. but once again Ontario shows how well Liberal fear campaigns really work for a population, that for the most part, can't think for itself.
Very funny Walter....I was thinking more of helping under previlged children. Maybe fixing a few schools...get rid of the asbestos in a school or two. 250M can impact something pretty good, even if it was a one time shot deal like fixing a bridge or maybe buy a few new MIRs machines. Just seems like the outcome is going to be wasted and we hit the polls again in 6-18 months agian. thats all.
People cry for change!! yet some all they vote for is who they like in thier local ridings not the actual party they would want to see in power. There are so many gullible people its always the same thing "well so and so did this for our commmunity which I like so I will vote for him or her", not realizing or not caring that it might be that vote that decides who gets Government. That I feel is the problem with our Federal election process. When I voted I didnt think just of my community I thought of who I want to see in power it was a Federal Election not a provincial one. Just my thoughts and my opinion Chris.
The Beverly Hillbilly wealth of the oil patch. Without oil, there's no industry out there. As a purveyor of a high end cars you know this better than anybody.
First people like yourself wanted a election and now your complaing about wasting $250 million? God give it a rest.
I think your missing the point of my previous posts. A minority government was good once, but again ? Might be more backroom politics going on than before. If you look at the map, Ontario is still all red, the rest of Canada is blue. We are turning more US everyday and dont even know it. A divided country just like them.
I can tell ya that many coprorate head offices are leaving Ontario for Alberta, and it ain't because of the oil patch...
Yup !! Its called less taxes !! I had two major clients since 2002 leave Ontario as their head office and move 600 people plus each to the west.
Wouldn't this be a good thing for the country, though? Sort of spread the corporate wealth around a little? Maybe then the west can suckle some of that good ole entitlement too - of a more conservative nature of course . . . Ian
