In Canada the insurance companies declare a flood car irreparable.
A flood titled car can never be titled for the street again (in Cda) and is only usefull for parts or a track car.
I had heard thou that in some states in the US you could put a flood car back on the road ......hence this ebay ad.
It does appear that he is getting some grief from ebay inquiries.....and rightly so in my opinion.

Well if that is your opinion your entitled to it. But this isn't Canada and this car would run rings around alot of the cars that are supposed to be perfect.

Doesn't matter, I'll keep it if it doesn't sell....All I have to do is wait on the hyperinflation:)

I had a Acura NSX and we had floods in Toronto in 2005 while it was parked in a lot. The depth of the water in the interior of my car was about 6 inches. I tried to get the insurance company to NOT brand the car but there was no option. Later I found out it was a blessing because while the car operated perfectly right after the flood, during the time I continued to own it for a few months (while I was settling with the insurance company).....the electrical gremlins were never ending....from stereo, power windows, alarm, transmission malfunctions, to eventually full engine shut down just when they were loading it on the flatbed to take it away. A very dramatic moment I might add.
There were thousands of brand new cars and used cars flooded that day (if the water in the interior touches the fuse box it is declared a flood car and the fuse box in a NSX is on the floor ....same as a ferrari) and they were ALL written off (exotics of value, including my NSX were sold off by the insurance companies and probably shipped to the USA in states where the laws are lax and put back on the road .

So, if you can hide the 'flood title' from the Canadian authorities (registration and insurance co)....you could probably title it here. But if the title is branded you can NEVER put that car on the road in Canada. You can use it as a track car however.

I've seen this car and ridden in it...yes, it has a flood title. NO, it isn't a salvage car. This car has paint 99% better than all the other 355's I've seen and has had EVERYTHING stripped and re-done. I saw the car first when it was just a shell. If it wasn't for the blemish on the title, I'd defy anyone to show any previous flood damage to the car.
Why is it, if you restore a 30+ year old car, you're a hero, but if you restore a 10 year old car, you're hiding something???
In the ad he is simply stating the facts about the car. Park this car next to another comparably priced car, and see which one is nicer. Bottom line-- alot of car for the money!!

    CF355,

I wonder how this buyer plans to pull this off. It clearly says "flood" on the title?

    Maybe I should warn him.....

I have a new idea for the ebay doorknobs...I am gonna take my beautiful 355 and drive it straight into lake erie just for the hell of it...After that I am gonna drag it out and park it in the corner for a few days with the windows up so it smells really nice....after that I will accept one of their stupid low ball offers...Then they can feel really special about a great deal on ebay ;)

It would be a hell of a good time!

Funny thing is--enginefxr knows I would do it too! :)

I think that would be a good idea. He is probably someone who has no clue about the legal issues here but wants to get an affordable Ferrari.

A point was made prior about the 30 year old or older cars....being put on the road after a full restoration (they may have been flooded, burned, sat rotting in a wreckers yard or old barn for decades, ect)....in that context it does seem unfair to not allow one to rebuild a late model flood car , have it inspected and put it back on the road. But these are the rules in Canada now.

    Excellent photoshop!!!!

While I am on a rant we can do the following mods before we send her to the doom:

We could weld up the headers at a local muffler shop, wire open the exhaust bypass valve, order some CF airboxes, install those silicone hoses, and after we fish it out we will study the effects of fresh water on the BRONZE valve guides!
We can also ask D Helms if all of these things are smart, after he and rifledriver tell us that all of these things aren't...We won't listen, we know more than they do so we'll just do it anyway.....

I think this post sums up the 2008 355 section of Fchat....

One more thing we will need a dyno run!

Kinda puts it into perspective doesn't it!

I wonder how the submersion in water affects the timing belt change interval???

PS: does the open bypass valve contribute to faster sinking?

other than it being an f1, i certainly would purchase this car having the retrospective knowledge i have now of owning a 355. salvage title and all. matter of fact, if the add didnt mention "no trades", i would probably see if yellow tickles your fancy, and just get used to the f1 system, which sounds like has been upgraded to the 360 system.

    Thanks Todd,

    I have seen Ol yeller!

She is in good hands! It *would* tickle my fancy but it really has become an issue of space. I love cars I'm just running outta room and the wife wants a boat that we can tool around in that has "space in it"

She is kinda getting ticked that the family boat was a former P5 class racer with no real seats....Oh well, I'm always thinking practical as hell! I thought it was a great move at the time....

Ol yeller will be running so good you'll never want to sell anyway...PM me and I'll give you a fellows name that just had his engine built by G.S. It shoots freakin wicked fire!

I saw this auction, knowing the work jetfixr does I'd be all over this if I didn't already have one! But yeah on ebay it's rough...with a current bid in the 20's and a flood title all the low ballers come out. oh well nothing ventured, nothing gained, worth a shot selling her there.

Dam nit, I was afraid my name would pop up here somehow.

OK, OK....Negotiations start on Monday. Sight unseen, no PPI needed for me, if folks only knew....

The Wheeze has dangled that carrot in front of me for a while now and I have so far resisted with the cost of marriage counseling being what it is these days.... The fall sale of my Red Sled has left a big void for me as the only thing I now own to drive on the street is a clapped out Jeep with snow tires.

Seems like buyers smart enough to know a good car when they see one (regardless of title disclosures, owner skills, etc.) are few and far between, and many of those are looking for unknowledgeable sellers. Give me a good car with a tainted title from a knowledgeable owner over a car with clear title and an idiot owner anytime! Sounds like maybe you've found the right guy. Heck, if Helms thinks it's good, it's good!
PS: Maybe you shoulda included a weasel! :)

    Thanks Plugzit,

I guess I'll just keep it. I'm sure when the snow stops flying I will enjoy it again.

I pretty much only had "bottom feeders" on both ebay auctions trying to steel it. Too bad they figured out it wasn't a fire sale :)
