I ordered the 40 DCNF Carb Service kit from Alfa1750 on Ebay. I have been studying the Haynes Carburetor Manual and on page in section 6 "Special overhaul procedures" they refer to a "special tool available from Weber" to reform the main jet seatings. What kind of tool is it and do I need it?

That is a VERY specialized tool used to re-cut the seats of the main jets. Highly unlikely you would ever need it and if you do your carb re-build is likely well beyond the basic cleaning and replacement of basic parts.

The only special tool i needed was a very, long, thin screwdriver i had to make out of some 1/8" diameter 4130 TIG welding rod rod, to reach the left front carb adjustment screw when equalizing the carbs on the car. It is about 16" long, IIRC, as it needs to get thru the rear carb linkage, and be long enuf so it extends back past the top of the rear cam cover.
