    My fiance and I are looking to plan the nicest wedding we can on a shoestring budget. We'll be in New Orleans, but we're looking to do the wedding here in SoCal, so we'll be planning from a distance. I know F-chat is probably not the place to find budget minded wedding advice, but I thought I'd check and see what connections I may already have and never thought to ask.

    We're looking at July 4th, 2010, somewhere in SoCal (LA to SD). Fairly small pm wedding, 80-100 (ish).

    We're absolutely open to suggestions.... estates, restaurants, hotels..... whatever. If you know of a place, throw it out there.

    We've learned that despite being nothing more than a party, as soon as you say "wedding", the prices skyrocket, and we haven't quite made our millions yet.

    Also, for you photography enthusiasts, we'll need one of those too. :)

    My wife is a caterer and just did as fantastic wedding yesterday. To make a nice wedding and event is a lot more than "just another party".
    She knows all the things you mentioned: locations, hotels, food, staffing, etc. Her company is called LA Spice Catering.

    Thanks guys. Didn't mean to over-generalize on the "just another party", but that's the overwhelming guy mentality in me. I know my fiance feels differently.

    I would look into the Temecula wine country, about an hour south of LA. There are several beautiful wineries out there that do weddings. Good luck and keep us posted!
