I think, with strangers, the big fear here is that they will get Mario Andretti syndrome and go balls-out to see what the car will do. Nobody wants their steed "ridden hard & put away wet" by reckless joyriders. I feel that if you know the person at least well enough to feel comfortable with their maturity level, driving style and, depending upon the car, their financial ability to cover any unlikely, but possible damage, to the car, then it should be safe enough to loan it too them. At least make sure that there is good insurance coverage. When I had my 308, I would have had no problem letting someone, that met the above criteria, borrow & drive my car.
