Here are some scary pics of a friends 2005 Holden Caprice with 20" wheels. This happened yesterday and it shows the importance of ensuring you have the correct load rated tyres fitted to your car. My friend David was coming over to visit me yesterday. As he turned left off the main street, his RHF tyre blewout. He lost control of the car which went into the opposite lane and smashed into the gutter. The car then 'bounced back' and came to a stop in the other lane. Luckily my house is only 50m from where this happened, so he slowly limped into my driveway. He was lucky there was not another car stopped there at the intersection, as he would have cleaned them up for sure. Also VERY lucky that there was not anyone walking along that area. He would have probably killed someone if that were the case. It is a very popular intersection in town, with constant traffic flow through it. A lot of people walk there daily and a lot of school kids walk along there also. Beaurepairs sold and fitted the front tyres for him on Monday. The tyres were supposed to be 600kg load rated, but they were only 300kg load. The rim is cracked on the inside, the RHF suspension strut looks bent and it also damaged/bent the RHF gaurd. We put the original tyre back on the car for now. David called Beaurepairs and they are sorting this out now......... More info pls Pap... My understanding was passenger vehicle tyres were 'speed' rated and 'load' rating only came in on light truck tyres with 600kg being the starting point for light trucks?
I think you'll find car tyres are load rated as well, they're 615kg for the Michelins on the QV and 650kg for the tyres on the BM We went into this many years ago with one of the guys in VIC stating he couldn't get the correct load rating for his 550 and was wondering how his insurance would go check here : http://www.tyrepower.com.au/tyre_load.aspx
Should always be on the sidewall of the tyre JM. I didnt look for it on the front damaged tyre. The tyre placcard in his car reckons 600kg per corner. I also didnt look at it. Every tyre is speed and load rated Karen. Part of the ADR requirements for tyres bought/imported and sold in Australia. Valuable tyre info is found on every tyre. Well, maybe the REALLY cheap Chinese tyres have minimal information on them. LOAD rating- If it is not in kg, it will have a 'load index code' on there somewhere like this. Load Index Load Kg 81- 462 82- 475 85- 515 86- 530 87- 545 90- 600 92- 630 95- 690 96- 710 98- 750 100- 790 SPEED rating- In letters, as most of us know. Speed Symbol Maximum speed (km/h) N- 140 P- 150 Q- 160 R- 170 S- 180 T- 190 U- 200 H- 210 V- 240 Z- 240 W- 270 Y- 300 Here are pics of the load and speed rating of my old 348 tyres. That mangled wheel is awesome, the damage is amazing. Just got back from gokarts........I WANT A REAL GOKART............and my body is killing me and mostly my spine. Absolutely great fun, can I convince any other sydney siders to come to the next show down? http://www.sydneykartingseries.com/info/sing.htm Em
Welcome to Karting Em. The spine always hurts even with the "fabric" seats they came out with. Buy a 308, that's a big go kart.
Fixed for you! Man, that is a HUGE drive for 2 days work isnt it?? Looking forward to it mate. Make sure you have a safe drive!! Pretty crazy sh*t! IIRC, the Fchat boys in Melb used to do some Karting. Fixed for you........again.
