Looking for a quick getaway with my wife. Any thoughts that are about 3 hours or so from DC? Basically looking for something that's a pleasant drive, has a nice room/view where we can chill and destress for a night or so. We have done the Greenbrier. I am too cheap for the Inn at Little Washington. Thanks! dsd
Somewhere on the eastern shore....cape charles as an inn but i have not tried cant get more laid back then cape charles and if you cut across 50 then got down 13 it is a nice drive once you get across the bay bridge
The summit inn. Union town,Pa. Some nice drives nearby. Has been a few years since we’ve been there but was a nice experience.
tygart lake park, wv. rustic. quiet. you can stay at the lodge or pack your grub and stay in a cabin overlooking the lake.
Lexington Va, The Georges great hotel and lots to do in that area, great restaurants go see Lees Museum at Washington and Lee, the Natural Bridge, Stonewall Jacksons house is right behind for a great tour, so on.... Private parking in rear of hotel https://thegeorges.com/
If you're interested in American history, Philadelphia's historical treasures would be a worthwhile destination.
We periodically drive to Baltimore, stay at The Admiral Benbow, and eat at Chingiale. Lots of things to do around Inner Harbor over a weekend. Williamsburg is another provided you’re interested in that particular era of history And of course there’s the Shenandoah area, that has the best drive. We also had a nice weekend in Raleigh, but’s that’s a bit more than a three hour drive.
Nice drive and chill? Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and hit St. Michaels and Oxford Maryland. Zillions of Inns.Dinner at 208 Talbot in St. Mikes. Like planes? Udvar Hazy branch of Smithsonian Air and Space Museum near Dulles airport will blow you away. Like cars? Simeone Museum in Philadelphia was rated #1 car museum in the world. Unbelievable collection of sports racing cars. Sent from my VS990 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I just stayed at Salamander. I very highly recommend it. Very equestrian, but the spa services were, for a resort, the best I’ve ever had. http://www.salamanderresort.com/ Matt
Nemacolin Woods in southwest PA. All kinds of golf, spa and other activities. Nice dining. Quick trip to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s falling water. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You weren't far from my home and my daughters barn. Give a shout if you have time and the wife and I will join you for drinks next visit
DSD, plenty of great suggestions already from others here... To mix it up, I would add Deep Creek Lake at an Air BnB house. The roads in Western MD and WV are empty and stunning. Also, anywhere near the DE beaches would be fun. Lewes or Bethany...
Wintergreen Resort near Charlottesville. Rent an VRBO house or condo, swim, golf, hike, and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Boalsburg, PA. Next to State College, B and B called Springfield House is knockout, owned by Ferrari owner too. Quant town, Duffy’s tavern across from BB is a classic!, Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Recommend the Homestead - nice rural drive about a 4hr windshield time https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/homestead-virginia
Great roads too. It’s not as wonderful as it once was when it was owned by Club Resorts, but it’s pretty wonderful. But... I see no need to overshoot Salamander for it. Matt
