So far, my travel schedule, family commitments, and New England weather have conspired to keep me away from pretty much every event in 2004. Now, I finally have this weekend free - May 8/9 - and can't find any events to go to!!! Are there any driving oriented events going on May 8 or 9 in the New England area? Or, are any Boston/New England Fchat members up for getting together for a drive? What do you guys think? - Jon
Excellent! Just sent you a PM Anyone else up for a drive today or tomorrow...it would be great fun to get a group together - Jon
Could not find anyone else to come, so just the wife and I went. Had great fun though - did 385 miles and 4 states (MA, NH, VT, NY), mixed in a picnic lunch at the top of Pack Monadnock, and topped it off with a nice dinner in Lennox, MA. All in one day! Discovered lots of great roads - and finally got to unleash the Maserati a bit. Really glad that I went yesterday - esp since it rained today, and I can't make the NH drive next weekend either. Looking forward to meeting fellow Fchat members - and making some new friends at Tutto Italiano though! Even Steve Rochlin should be driving by then! - Jon
Jon, >>>Had great fun though - did 385 miles and 4 states (MA, NH, VT, NY), mixed in a picnic lunch at the top of Pack Monadnock, and topped it off with a nice dinner in Lennox, MA. All in one day!<<< You were nearly "around the corner" from you, you SHOULD have stopped by >>>Discovered lots of great roads - and finally got to unleash the Maserati a bit.<<< Great roads??? Near me??? Like, no way dude! ;-) ;-) ;-) Alas, can not make Tutto Italiano as will be in NYC covering another audiophile show. Though from the 17th onward color me "gone fishing"
Good for you Jon. Always get a thrill seeing people drive sports cars like they were meant to be. A bunch of us put about 300 miles on our Ferrari's yesterday, as us New Yorkers hopped down to Pennsylvania for a dalliance with a Carrera GT.
Miles = Smiles! Favorite roads from yesterday... Route 9 West in VT was great Route 22 in NY was great 101 in NH was OK - too much traffic nothing in MA was bearable !!! - Jon
Jin, 101 sucks! You need to take **certain side roads*** off 101 Trust be here (as i laugh my wickedly evil laugh ).
A friend of mine recommended the roads around the Quabbin Reservoir. Basically Route 9 west of Worcester is really good although a bit short. And it's a good alternative to the Pike. Plus motoring around the Quabbin adds quite a few miles to the journey.
I did the loop around the Quabbin in March Although nice and twisty, the road surface was very bumpy with potholes. I had to replace a wheel and two front tires (sidewall damage) after Quabbin. Best, - Jon
PLEASE, i nearly BEG you guys.... come by my place next weekend. i'll show you some roads Alas, will still be on the Kuhmo tires here next week as the Bridge S-03 had to be ordered/sent... Seriously, stop by and i'll show you some roads from Wilton to Keene and inbetween...
Steven, Wondering what losing your license going to do to your insurance. Does NH use the same step plan we have here in MA? I was surprised when I got my policy the other day for my 04 Maserati spyder and with my step 9, Which gives you the highest credit here in MA, Got a $748 discount off my policy making total bill only $1492, I had thought would have been lot higher as only quote I had got was from that Marsh Private client that FMoNE had recommended and they were about $3500. Seeing that discount definitely has a big impact on how my foot behaves on the gas knowing a ticket or two could make that discount go away and then add a large surcharge
Scott, Not sure what it will do, though have a few friends "in the business" and they say as long as the ins co. does not check my records i am ok. Add to that the ticket is, technically, already a year old. Also, some companies take various things into account (alarm, stored in secured garage, no accidents, etc). So there are variables. Will know more when i renew in January. But hey, i'd rather have fun then worry about a few $$$.
The really evil part is that in MA, surcharges persist for 6 (count 'em!) years after they are first assessed. Thus, I am currently a step 13 up from step 9 after a $1200 fender-bender almost 5 years ago (clipped an Accord in my blind spot changing lanes) and an otherwise spotless record. If your record stays clean for the next 6 years, the surcharge goes away. If you get another infraction, the points add up quickly. So far, so good- can't wait till next june, though. My insurance will go down something like 35 percent! If I had known that, I would have just paid the $1200 and come out ahead in the long run. -Gio P
