I have an 85 308 QV and it is not running correctly, I have narrowed it down to the relays for the jetronic unit (in the trunk under the antenna). On that unit it has three relays, two on the side and one large silver one by itself (Wehrle relay). I know this is the problem because I borrowed a friends' relay and the car smoothed out right away. The relay has being out of production for a while, so needless to say, I have been looking for this Wehrle unit for a while. Does anybody know if there is a substitute replacement or better yet, if you have an extra unit and want to sell it or you know where to get one, I would appreciate it.

Yikes...$566.00??? Are they insane. Thanks for the lead; however, my relay doesn't have the fuse (red) top on it. Is this the same relay?

My 84 QV is not running perfectly, despite replacing a number of components. How is your '85 acting? Does one bank run better than the other? We've already run through ignition, fuel, cams (alignment and sensors), digis...I don't have a Wehrle relay to swap/test, but if our symptoms are similar, it may be worth getting one.

I was told the early relays had an internal fusable link and the later ones had a fuse built into the top.
    Mine quit working.
I took the cover off of the relay, found a burnt fusable link, added an external fuse (10a I think).
Soldering fuse between the contact and small tab shown parallels the internal fusable link with external fuse.
Been working fine for 3 years.

I also had a problem with the frequency valve buzzing intermittently, (you can see I tried slighting twisting tabs for better contact). I had to clean the contact points in the relay.

Does your frequency valve buzz when the car is running? If it does, then the relay is fine as it supplies power for the Lambda system.

You can use the external fuse relay (a Porsche part) for a 328 but you will have to change the wiring around in the connector.

In fact, the one on the Ricambi site is actually for the 328, not a 308QV.

It would also be nice if you would fill out your profile.

Thanks for the correction. It was mentioned by Ferarrioldman, that this relay is for a 328, so will this relay work in my 308?

I'm pretty sure that the 308QV with Lambda and the 328 use the same relay. It is also the same relay as used on a Testarossa. For $110 I would snap one up from Ricambi.

We have sold them to 308QV owners before, so I assume they're working just fine.

The wiring diagrams and SPCs show that the US TR and the US 328 use the same (and better) STRIBEL part with the external fuse (61766200) and 4 terminals. It's the US 308QV that has the one with the inaccessible fuse link and five terminals (of which only 4 are used); however, as Tom J. mentioned you can use the US 328/TR part in a US 308QV if you move some of the wires around in the socket:

    For '84-'85 US 308QV (K-Jet with Lambda):
    terminal 30 = +12V always
    terminal 31 = ground
terminal 31b = another ground (not used)
terminal 86 = +12V when the fuel pump is actually running
terminal 30a = (If the protection relay is working) +12V that goes to run the injection system (i.e., if terminal 86 is at +12V and terminal 31 is at ground, then terminal 30 is connected by the switch contacts inside the protection relay to terminal 30a)

For US 328 (K-Jet with Lambda) and US TR (KE-Jet with Lambda):
    terminal 30 = +12V always
    terminal 31 = ground
terminal 15 = +12V when the tachometric relay is closed and the fuel pump is actually running
terminal 87 = (If the protection relay is working) +12V that goes to run the injection system (i.e., if terminal 15 is at +12V and terminal 31 is at ground, then terminal 30 is connected by the switch contacts inside the relay to terminal 87)

    so:

wire on 308QV protection relay terminal 30 = connects to terminal 30 on 328/TR protection relay
    ...terminal 31 = ...terminal 31
    ...terminal 86 = ...terminal 15
    ...terminal 30a = ...terminal 87
    ...terminal 31b (not used) = ...N/A

Yes, it does buzz - and when I pulled the relay the car ran worse. Oh well, at least it's another component off the check-list.

Thanks for posting this information. I have the owners/service manual and it doesn't tell you this information. Couldn't figure out problem, car wouldn't run, ruled out fuel system, knew it was electrical. Local Ferrari dealer says bring it in, no help over the phone. Thanks to you it was this relay. Car runs great now.

    Thanks,

    Rich
