This is what I found, the scale is wrong! First off, it came to 3509lbs with half a tank, full tools, spare and a few things in a bag. It read 1595kgs, my girlfriend then stood on the scale and weighed in at 55kgs which is 121lbs. She was just weighed by the doctor the day before at 114lbs so, the scale is reading high and I dont know how much my car really weighs. The car is full euro, never converted.

That would still be around 3275-3300lbs dry, not bad considering the xtra weight BBis have from the added parts, a 308 weighs 3200lbs dry to keep things in perspective.

You shouldn't just neccesarily scale that result in a perfectly linear way. All you really know is that at 114 lbs, it indictes 121 lbs so maybe you should be saying 3502 rather than 3509 ;)

Measuring a ~100 lb object on a scale capable of 5000~10000 lbs as the "calibration" isn't the greatest IMO (unless you're interested in weighing other ~100 lb objects). At best, the scale probably only has a gauranteed accuracy of a couple~few % of the total capacity.

Yes, I imagine it isnt dead accurate for such light things considering its a truck weigh station so close is good enough. I do think 3500 is high though, now if we could just get a 365BB to weigh in we can dispell the myth that they can weigh as much as 1100 lbs lighter than a BBi.

The 365 weighed around 2740 from the factory, this was without a/c and power windows, don't think I have heard of a 365 without either so they claim 150lbs+ adding these options that would be around 2900 lbs dry or 200lbs less than a 512BB at factory 3084 which is accurate IMO as my car weighed 3300 with 1/2 tank and misc items and tools.

So if your car is at 3275-3300lbs dry an extra 400lbs is possible for a BBi and 200 for a 512BB, I could see the 365BB around 2900-3000 dry.

Same general problem as dynos. Take the cars to the same weigh station.

With just a modest improvement in torque the 512 kick as* in terms of tq/lb which is the important cruising/street measure. The little v8s that generate 350+ hp (not tq) at 8000 rpm are not the same as the 12s below 4500 rpm. As an owner of a German (sorry) 516 ft-lbs @ 2750rpm machine I can attest.

Are you SURE your girlfriend is only 114? If I were you I would question her to see if she is telling you the truth about the reported weight.

ps - before doing so, make sure your financial affairs are in order.

Having seen both Newman's girlfriend and his car on Sunday, I can vouch for her weight estimate. Not sure about the car's weight though. I can also confirm that both a very nice looking indeed.

Thanks Gerrit you're too kind! We had a great time, it was my girlfriends second ferrari show and she really enjoyed it as did I. It was nice to see the group again and catch up. As for the weight issue, I would only get a black eye and because it will bother me for a long time, Im going to try a different scale rather than a truck one.

I weighed mine on the way home from a recent Ferrari Club event in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

The weigh station was closed, but they left the scale display turned on.

It registered 3,500 pounds, which including some luggage (20-25 pounds?), all of the tool/jack kits, spare tire, etc.. and about 1/2 tank of gas.

1983 512BBi (It's been returned to Euro specs and has a Larini exhaust, which is about 30 pounds lighter than stock)

My wife was too fat for the doctor's scale so he took her to a truck weigh station.

As long as she was carrying tools/jack and had a half tank of gas, we're all good.

I weighed a Carb BB with Bell sports exhaust (very light) some time ago and it was 1515kg with lowish fuel.

I have scales and I have both 365 and my own 512 in the shop... i'll try to find the time to weigh them.

Approx 3,500 pounds sounds correct. 2740 for a dry 365 BB, will not happen on an accurate scale. - That dry car is probably in the low 3,100 pound area.

The first wrong assumption is the accuracy of the doctors scale. I had a high reading on one at the clinic some years ago, and this cute nurse let me try every scale in the place. Simply because every single one I stepped on was different than all the others. There is a reason they print "not legal for trade" on those worthless things. The truck scales are generally much more accurate. I would be surprised if its off more than 10 pounds.

I weighed mine on a truck scale and the question was rasied about those not being accurate. Mine rung in at 3400lbs and I believe it, I also believe that the 365 with the same options is going to weigh very close to my injected car and that a carbed 512 and 365 should be within pounds of each other. All this stuff about a 365 being 1000lbs less is making me laugh again as I write! I believe that the prototype 365 with crappy interior and no options is where the weight spec probably came from.
