Does anyone know what the dry weight of the engine is for a 360 and a 430 motor?

My CS manual doesn't have this information. Have searched on google and not found anything.

I'm interested in the weight with/without the gearbox, and also the lenght in particular of the motor again with/without the gearbox.

I put a 360 motor, perhaps not totally dry, on a scale and it came in at something like 390 pounds and that was complete. At least that's my recollection. The V8 355/360 is very light. The Maserati motor is listed by Maserati at 390 pounds but I'm not sure if that's dressed or not. Either way these are very good numbers.

Cool thanks for this - throwing around a few "silly" ideas as to taking a 360/430 motor and putting it in something like a radical SR9 chassis to build a full on track car.

The 430 sales brochure mentions that the motor is 10kg heavier than the 360 motor, but doesn't give any actual weights.

BTW, in the Nat'l Geog special on the Ferrari factory, they said the 599 engine is 1/5 of the cars total weight. I think a 599 weighs around, what, 3700 lbs? So the engine must be around 740 lbs. Assuming the statement is accurate, of course. This is one of the reasons I actually prefer the Ferrari V8s.

SR9's (and all LMP cars) use the engine as a stressed member, I doubt if the F engines would cope with this, so you may have to factor in a subframe too...and not a lot of space in an SR9...I would budget on roughly the price of a 2nd user Enzo to design, build and develop it, if its possible...arn't there any 333SP's still about?

Yes - that thought had occurred. Just pipe dreaming really, there are 2 333sps for sale right now, but for the price of a rebuild on that motor one could get 4 or 5 new 360/430 crate motors. That was what provoked the thought in the first place.

Bet its a lot easier to get a 360/430 motor into a 333SP chassis compared with a modern LMP car though - best of both worlds.
