Damn! What a trooper you are Coincid. Looking jacked, and if I may say so a whole lot younger then 69. You've found the fountain of youth. Keep it up!
I returned from Montreal on May 25th and in a few days both my wife and I had some kind of bug. She was laid up for a few weeks, primary symptoms were low grade fever and exhaustion. I started to feel better and had been pushing myself, yard work, workouts, and other projects, but I was still exhausted and had a fever of 1/2 to 1 degree that I couldn't shake. My wife went to the doctor and found out she had a bacterial infection, so they prescribed antibiotics. I finally listened to her and got some myself. Within 2 days I was feeling better than I have in a month, I forced myself to wait a few more days before returning to the gym. Last night I was back at the gym and had an amazing workout. I was going at my old pace, feeling great AND I didn't lose much, if anything, because I had managed 2-3 workouts/wk for most of those weeks. Last night we did a 5x5, 5 reps x 5 sets in a narrow weight band. My flat bench isn't very strong but I did 165, 165, 175, 175, 180 for the 5x5. I was pretty happy with that. We did reciprocal forms between sets for stretching and a moments recovery; last night was lat pulldowns, shrugs, and core (always good to work core). Then we jumped to incline dumbbells (55, 65, 70) and lawnmowers (80 lb in sets of 8, heavy for many but pretty easy for me). It felt great to get a good pump. Now that I feel better, I can make and post up a few more videos for everyone.
Wow I can’t believe I have never noticed the weight lifting thread on here, this is actually my thing, although I am retired from the sport now, this is me https://mikejosephofficial.wordpress.com/, happy to help with anything I can
No doubt! Welcome to the thread Mike. I am 62 in a couple of days and you can see a lot of vids here of various lifts. Like you, I am natty but I wasn't really a body builder. I was about 50 lb overweight and in my late 50's when I decided to lose the weight and started lifting. The results are about a 5 year build (a bit more but still less than 6 years).
Thanks guys. Nice lifting BTW. I also am in the Guinness Book of records for 24 hour bench pressing, something I loved doing but would never do again. I’m 52 in a few days. I am 100% lifelong drug free and regularly tested , I loved the buzz of competing all around the world
The only point of comparison I have is a 24 hour mountain bike race I rode in at about 45 years old. It was the world solo championships but I rode on a 5-man team, a beginner's class. The guys riding solo were SERIOUSLY BADASS. The winner did 22 laps on a 10 mile loop with 1760 vertical feet of climb per lap and start line was at 5000 ft. That means they rode 220 miles in 24 hours, offroad on a mountain bike; they did 38,720 vertical feet of climbing, taller than Mt Everest. They were also shokingly fast, on my first lap (about 5 hours into the race) Tinker Juarez lapped me 3 times. Oh well, our goal was "Don't DNF" and we made that goal, we weren't even last, so it was a big win. Even with that reference I can't imagine doing the bench press for 24 hours. You rock.
Ok so full explanation of the 24 hour bench press , 9 man team event, 3 benches. The record was about how much weight you can press in 24 hours, put as much or little weight on the bar as you want and each rep you do the total weight you have lifted is added up. 9 men sound easy doesn’t it? Picture this, in order to beat the record we needed to do 10 reps per minute per person, with 3 sharing each bench, that means you have 20 seconds to get on the bench , do 10 reps and get back off the bench again, doing this continually for 24 hours. We ended up beating the record and benching 11,000 tonnes
Yep! I love the commitment. I tell people 'It isn't the first rep, it is ALL about that last rep when you aren't sure you can make it but go anyway.' Serious respect!!! I don't find many people who commit on that level.
From the Olympia this weekend. Some motivation to train even harder! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Has the record been beaten or does it still stand? Super impressive either way [emoji122] Sent from my SM-S9180 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
A lot of controversy about the rulings this year, perhaps even more then previous years. Especially regarding Hadi's second placing and him walking of the stage right after. Hadi was more ripped then Derek. Judges favored Derek's overall shape. As expected Chris remained the Classic winner and seemed to improve/repair his damaged bicep tear from last year. He might retire soon due his health issues. Genetics are everything.....
