Maybe someone know: what is the overall weight of 512 TR engine/transmision? I need to move it and I don't want to brake workshop crane.

Jan -- Can you clarify your question (what you've got in the title doesn't match the text of your post)? Do you mean just the gearbox or the whole powerplant? My guess would be that Malcolm's response is for just a "dry" gearbox (or a typo ;)) and that this thread:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70671

gives a better estimate for a "wet" complete powerplant (although no one responded to the question).

    Hi Steve,

Just to clarify - by dry I mean it has no oil in it, the weight includes all gears, shafts, casings etc.

I'm clear on the "dry" part Malcolm -- but the 86 Kgm weight that you quoted is literally only the gearbox, right?

Yes, sorry, it wasn't clear at all. I mean the weight the complite engine (with manifolds, generator, AC compressor, belts, etc), clutch, trasfer gears, gearbox and diff. Everything in form which usually is remove from the car.

A 2 ton engine crane will be more then enough to move it around. Just hoist it off the ground enough for clearance, and move it the the spot desiered. Most shop engine cranes have this capacity as the norm.

Sorry, I looked through all my documentation and couldn’t find any information on these weights, but I would estimate in the range of 500kg, which most engine cranes would not have a problem with. Good luck with it.

1200 lbs? Seems awfully heavy. Someone must know. I'd have guessed 600 - 700.

    For reference:
    - I believe a v8 Detroit iron block is about 700lbs.
    - I would guess the 308 block and trans is 500 - 600 lbs.
    - I believe the F1 v10 motor was about 200 lbs.

    P.S., J Patterson will know.

if its a ford the block and heads are 700-725lb ish, the bare block no crank is 350lb. a complete pan to carb ford bb is 1000lbs throw in a C6 and you're pushing the 1500lb mark, getting as heavy as some super cars, now that is some heavy wheight in the front of a car, oddly the cleaveland used in the panteras were not that much lighter becouse they were bigger than the small block windsor.

Scott, thanks for the data. As a reference, the '62 Lotus Elan racer (Twin Cam 4-banger) weighs around 1300 lbs, wet. Lotus 23 was under 1000lbs dry.

So, to the original poster's question, anyone know the weight of the TR engine c/w accessories.

The 308 engine/gearbox assy is 500lbs, I would think the 12 might weigh in at 700lbs complete.
