    1997 6 speed spider, major service last year, car doing fine shifted to 3 rd with no power with acceleration, down shifted to 2 and ok back to third ok then 4 and again no response from acceleration no engine rev nothing down shifted ok but then again in third ???? Any ideas

    CEL light is burned out and one bank of the engine shut down.

    At this point, it could be anything.

    Do the Check Engine and Slow Down lights illuminate when you switch on the ignition?

    Does your car have a 5.2 Motronic system (with a single Check Engine Light and single Slow Down light) and do you have an OBD2 scanner?

    There at least a dozen things that could cause this.

    The first place to start is to replace the CEL light so it is illuminated when this happens.
    If this does not illuminate when the engine is flat on its face, you get to the point a SD2 device is needed.

    Next you read out the ECU codes, then you check the CAT monitor, then the Thermocouples, oxygen sensors,.....

    So, at this point you are the point of needing specialty equipment (SD2) and a complete set of manuals to locate, isolate, analyze, and find the culprit.
